TF2 has a much larger market reach than FF, FF may end up being the better game but TF2 will win hands down in numbers. me personally, ill probably play both TBH. |

Valve currently has the boxed set for $50...according to G4. Not a bad price if you don't already own it.......

Yah, with the exception of HL:Source and DoD:S, I own every game Valve has published. I have no intentions of repurchasing what I already own simply to get TF2. But FFS, I want Portal and Ep2.

I don't believe TF2 will be decent enough(for my taste) to warrent buying something I already have just to get a mediocre game that I don't think I will like. Reference C&C: 10 year Edition. I like MOST of the games on the dvd....so I was inclined to buy it. TBH, there was only 1 on the disc I didn't like...and that was Renegade. To me, it was worth dropping $30 for a bunch of games I like, even if it included one I didn't. I am not dropping $50 for 2 I have, 1 I want, 1 I MIGHT like, and 1 I don't think I will like. Simple economics.

I'll pay $50 for all the games I want, and one game I already have.
I already have another account that I am trying to build up. |

TF2 will win hands down regardless of when each is released. Marketing is the major player along with ease of use. As an example, Im on the dev team for HL2:CTF and HL2:CTF is by far a better CTF game then the silly modded map version that can be played in Hl2: DM (with the ball in the gravgun). But if you check the numbers, there are Deathmatch servers that are full and infact the #1 Deathmatch server is a server that runs nothing but ctf maps. Why is this the case? Its quite simple, players dont know about the mod, dont know what a mod even is, doesnt have any idea how to download and install a mod, and dm comes with what you buy and is installed along with the game.
Noobs run the show. They fill servers and keep the community numbers up. Problem is they have no idea what a mod is for the most part, free or not, so its not a simple procedure getting the masses over to play a mod without support from steam and well, dont expect any support that involves CTF style gameplay with TF2 on the doorstep. TF2 will come with EP2 along with everything else. It will install with the game and its not a complicated thing for new players to the game to click the mouse button and start playing TF2 since its already there to play. TF2 wins by a landslide, even if its not the better game. Last edited by Sacrifist; 07-21-2007 at 05:51 AM. |

the only thing i would add to that is that the people who play more casually aswell (which there are alot of) simply cannot be arsed to download and install a mod. This is why we as a community will need to really push. i.e Post to digg and everyone digg it ASAP so it gets on the front page (since digg is one of the greatest web resoruces for publicity and all that) |

interesting little gem from Valve just found when i opened steam:
If you purchase the orange box, Steam will detect that you have already bought duplicates of the games and will enable you to send them to a friend. |

TF2 has the publicity and the simple gameplay that will bring in tons of new players to TF. FF has the depth and skill that a somewhat experienced TF player will want (not to say that it wont draw in new folks as well). In this respect, TF2 and FF compliment each other rather than compete. Its still going to be a challenge to make FF work, though. Like any mod, it will need a lot of advertising. If FF doesnt make it, it will be because of that and not because of competition with TF2. |

Is there any other way to play? It takes major skill to work a keyboard with your toes.

There's a guy named Malice that plays TFC with his feet because he doesn't have any arms. He released a video on the cats a while back showing off his dexterity. I think he writes better with his feet than I do with my hands.

I try to play TFC with my penis, but all I end up doing is mashing a bunch of keys and hitting the space bar nonstop.
