Connection Tweaks?

I am very familiar with the console on Quake Engine games to tweak setting for smoother gameplay on 56K, but I am not too familiar with HL2 or Source game console commands.

I seem to have very little problem playing FF on dial-up and actually kicked ass on several rounds with loaded servers and had a blast! I love it when someone says "Johnny, your ping sux!" and I can reply........ "Well, your score sux!"

Anywho, I do know how to get the console up and also figured out how to set "rate", but are there any other console tweaks that I can use to smooth it out a little more?
