Hey shadow, I guess none of the people in the dev team have seen your question yet - the last i heard was that all the mappers were afraid of touching a map as popular as 2fort.. not sure how much truth there is to that, but there it is.

So if you can bring us 2fort goodness, please by all means do!


(also, why have you stopped mapping for FF? that "other" fortress game?)

Actually I've been messing around with the Crysis editor, tons of fun.
Super Mario Galaxy and final exams also siphon off precious time.

I wouldn't touch TF2, its just that mapping for FF just takes alot of time, more than I'm willing to invest unless the work is crucial to the sucess of the mod (such as 2fort) or until the community grows a bit.

I have a half-done map which is roughed out and just about ready for gameplay testing, but I may never get around to finishing it.

I can't see an official 2fort saving the mod really.. (and do people not like blis' version?, I do.) It's a start though, something happening at least.. and get rid of the place holder, that's that first map people try out on a LAN.

Obviously the devs might be a bit fed up with the mod, lot's of effort and little appreciation so far. The server admins are generally poor too, far too many servers with badly implemented rules, sniper limits and ff_hunted in rotation, lack of custom maps. Those admins that get a semi every time they get to mention 'clanstyle' or kick half the server for not adhering to the rules they have.. yet not passwording the server because they themselves don't want to alienate new players... riiight.

I seem to be playing with the same people everyday, and I've been making an effort to help some newer players. It's amazing how there can be about 30 people playing the mod and still someone insists on team killing over and over to empty the server... never an admin in sight to sort it out. The only servers I've played on that are ran well are american, they seem to know what a public game is about and the admins actually play on their server.

Spending time to explain how a class works to someone new doesn't take long, when you give someone a bit of an explanation as to what's different in this mod from what they know previously, they generally come back.

I know how to get the concing community: Remove the goddamn wall friction for grenades! Friction is okay for the ground, but who the hell cares about sticky walls for grenades? Only the skills community does. At least make a cvar to toggle it on in skills servers (non cheat, of course)
