Depressing?! The awesomeness that is Steam is allowing me to pre-download the game. It's sitting on my computer now waiting to be unlocked the second it becomes available. Now I don't need to run out to a store to find out they don't have it out yet to try and find it at another store, drive home, and install it.

I don't see how it is depressing either, unless the game runs poorly over Steam. Not only can you pre-load it, but being able to play without a CD means that you don't have to worry about scratching the CD and it allows you to install on more than one computer and you don't have to keep track of one CD between the two computers.

Steam in this case is just a content delivery system so it should run exactly like the store version. Now that I think about it, it may even run slightly better since it won't have to read from a cd.

For all the bitching about Steam I did back in 2003, it has turned out to be a pretty nice system. I support this...

Damn... if those stats are true then I don't know why I'm still reading this instead of preloading.

While my interest is high on this game, I'm waiting for the PC demo to come out to see if my current system can handle it. I'm at the lower end of the "requirements" as to the cpu (P4 2.5 vs 2.4 min), higher in memory (2GB vs. 1GB min), but my vid card is a 9800Pro...

I'm waiting until fall/winter to build me a new system (after the AMD quad cores and/or the Intel 45nm ones are out). And the vid card quandary as to the DX10 vs DX10.1 has me wondering what to do anyway... only time will tell.

Because one error with and ID of 10-T is enough to base the best content delivery system ever on.

Yup.

lol who hasn't? I was playing TFC when they first released Steam and pretty much everybody hated it including myself (I think I played on WON for as long as I could). I've also had to completely reinstall Steam and all my games because it just crapped out.

But now it is much better and much more convenient IMO.

So what do you do when you reformat your hard drive? Oh, thats right, you have to redownload the 4+GB file again. I for one will be getting the retail box copy.

Oh thats right, I don't have to worry about losing or scratching a cd anymore, or even cataloging CD keys, thank you steam.

You back up your entire game library to a few DVDs and then install them off of the DVD when you reformat. Much more convenient that having to go through a separate install process off of multiple CDs for each game.
