Eternal Silence
Alright I just have to get this out of my system: Practically everybody on various HL2 sites have been drooling over Eternal Silence's ingame screenshots, so am I really the only one to think this mod is looking BLOODY UGLY? Have a look over here to see what I'm talking about. It honestly looks like it could've been a mod for HL1. In fact, I think Natural Selection looks a dozen times better than this. I realise Eternal Silence is still under heavy construction, but the screenshots they released are ugly as sin, and it probably wasn't a very good move by their marketing department to even release them.

Because they totally have a marketing department. I think it looks fine. They just need to fix up the player models and reduce the hud sprites.

I agree. In fact the mod looks alot like NS. It isn't anything too intense but maybe alot of mods need to start like this. Not everyone is ready for full eye candy PC spec wise. I'd have to play it to say anything at all.

Hmmm, that doesn't even look like the Source engine; it looks like a Q3 mod. I'm sure it will look good eventually, but this is exactly why you don't release ingame screen shots that early in development.

i like the hud, the maps look pretty awful though compared to the ones actually taking advantage of the source engine

Hello blurred stretched textures. Yeah, nothing interesting there for me. |

I thought it looked extremely decent.
You know, considering it was made by shitflinging monkeys hyped up and cocaine and Orange Crush who were also in the process of learning to not crap on the floor. But decent. (it sucks) |

The only shot that looks remotely good is the Lower Decks shot. And the player models look like they are from Q2. And the lighting... well to be frank looks like its Q3 lighting.

You wouldn't be doing Quake 3 justice to say something like that. Quake 3 has a very round architecture, shaders, and a lot more detailed textures. It really looks like it originates from the HL1-era. The news thread suggests these screenshots were taken with all settings set to high (including AA and AF, which apparently didn't come through), so the quality of their textures is entirely to blame.
Let me take this oppurtinity yet again by the way, for suggesting Fortress Forever to use detail textures. They greatly enhance the quality of the textures, they're easy to create, and are switched on and off without any added overhead. |

And we're sure this isn't secretly a Quake 2 mod?
