Bye Bye Vista

I've had enough. Now blowing out the Vista partition and installing XP. I may reinstall Vista eventually but I am done for now.

Last night was the final straw for me. I tried to rip a few CD's from the 80's and 90's...no go. The system would lock up. I ripped on another computer and transferred the files. Tried to put together a compilation audio CD...every disk I put in place was identified as "non-blank". I finally got pissed off enough to go back to 5 year old my laptop and complete the audio compilations there..without trouble...it's just slow.

This is on top of the other audio issues, bootloader issues, BSOD's caused by hung atapi devices, various driver issues, video problems, etc. I'm done.

Not to say I told you so, but...

Windows 7 might be better. I'd wait for that.

Maybe SP2 will make Vista not suck, but it looks like Microsoft is going to abandon it as fast as they can get Windows 7 out the door.

As I was building a new system I new I had a new OS install anyway. At least I gave Vista a try. I'm also finding that going dual boot is MUCH easier when XP is installed first.

Anyway...what a piece!

I briefly tried it around the time it was released, I don't run games at the time or at atm so my opinion on it was it's OK. Tried it again a some months back, got it installed but when I got into windows it couldn't read the second half of my partition. Couldn't be bothered sorting it, went back to XP.

I too am done giving Vista a chance. I gave it about 50, and now I'm back on XP with my new computer. Best. Decision. EVER.

Now I can FINALLY play FF!

Still in RC mode afiact. It's not coming through Windows Update as of yet. I understand it works nicely though.

There is a difference then building on top of a current stable kernal then taking that kernal and editing it for the better and then building upon it.

I've noticed that as well. What I've found is waiting a minute or two usually causes it to come back to life.

Why is it when my dvd drive disappears(happened again this week, rebooted w/the Crysis DVD in the drive and was greeted w/a 5 minute boot and no DVD drive present in the OS) it also causes USB devices to lag for 5-10 minutes before showing up when I plug them in now..

I hate Vista so much. The tcpip.sys half open connection limit of 10 makes it impossible to browse the internet when doin p2p too.. garrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrr.

The only problem I've ever had with Vista was it didn't like my soundcard (X-Fi Fatal1ty) with my 5.1 surround sound Logitech speakers... so I had to use the on-board audio...

Is this an atapi DVD, SATA or USB? If it's an ATAPI check what controller your motherboard has to make sure it can properly drive ATAPI devices. I had to ditch both of DVD drives that I carried over from an old build as the controller for that port on the board would not handle atapi properly. P35 series chipset just for an FYI.
