Calling Audiophiles

I'm looking for a decent record player and wondering if anyone has any experience with the Technics SL-1200 range. Is it worth it? And does anybody have other suggestions?

Every time we get records in at Amazon and they say "audiophile quality" I assumed it was a joke I wasn't getting.

Hah. I don't buy into much of the audiophile mentality... of needing a $15,000 record player and five hundred dollar cables. I just want to know if anyone has experience with this product, or knows a good record player for $500 - $1000 CDN.
