Valve Changes Steam Ids

For those of you who may not know, Valve decided to change everyone's steam id in TF2 and DOD last night. Now if you're playing one of those games your steam id will begin with STEAM_1, but if you're playing FF you're steam id may begin with STEAM_0. Things to keep in mind as an admin if you're trying to administer multiple servers and ban lists.

Valve sucks.

No clue, but we ended up standardizing all steam ids in the [o-t] environment. It doesn't matter what engine you're on now, you're steam id is converted to a STEAM_1 account. Let me tell you, that was a pain in the ass. Changing the primary keys for 130k users, all their supporting records in other tables, and the software to enter them into the system was a real pain in the ass. We had to shut all our servers down to do the conversion... Freaking dumbasses.

Does this mean that anyone who plays TF2 or DOD will get their steam id's permanently changed and for all the rest of us it won't? Or do their id's temporary change when connecting to a TF2 or DOD server?

If you have had the ID a while and play a mod like Fortress Forever and your steam id is STEAM_0:1:12345 it will show up as that in a Fortress Forever server. However, if that account also owns TF2 and you go play TF2 your steam id will appear as STEAM_1:1:12345. Steam Friends accounts don't change, as they only use the "1:12345" part of your steam id for that type of translation. There's talk in the donation section of SourceMod of changing the way they report steams ids to just be the "1:12345" piece so that everyone is unique again... something which I would support after last night.
