Fortress Options Crash?!?!?

Hi, i just started playing the mod and noticed i could change various settings such as MAX DL LIGHTS and LEVEL of EFFECTS DETAIL, although when i try to change them the game crashs, any help of similar problems would be appreciated, Thanks.

really need to know your system specs. If you have a low end computer you might want to run everything on low.
