Help track the v2.7 crash!
We're struggling to reliably reproduce the crash in 2.7, and the .dmp files aren't showing a callstack for us to use.
If anyone can help us try to reproduce it, that would be great. If you get a random crash, could you please give us details, such as: What server were you on? What map were you playing? How many people were on the server? What class were you playing? What were you doing at the time? Any other information that might be relevant? (People joining / leaving the server, you pressing the scoreboard button? Any kill assist related stuff going on?) Also it would be very useful if you know if there were any pyros active at the time of the crash. It could be something to do with their networking or effects. Thanks! What server were you on? Bone Yard
What map were you playing? Shutdown2 How many people were on the server? 10 What class were you playing? Spy What were you doing at the time? Stabbing Any other information that might be relevant? (People joining / leaving the server, you pressing the scoreboard button? Any kill assist related stuff going on?) Kill assist - first thing i noticed is that player 'rwnd''s name would show up as 'unconnected' when he got an assist. He is the only player's name that I've seen do this. |

We changed how the assister is sent over the network, so if the client is updated but the server isn't (or vice versa), the client will interpret the assister incorrectly. This is a known issue that shouldn't cause any problems except for weird names showing up as the assister in deathnotices. It should go away once all the servers get updated with the bugfix patch.

Could you check your Steam/dumps folder for files named something like assert_hl2.exe_<datetime>_1.dmp? If you have any from the past few days, could you upload them to a file sharing site and post the link here?
Other than that, have you noticed any commonalities about when you crash? When first joining a server? After playing for a while? Between map changes? When other people are connecting to the server?

I haven't noticed any particular pattern as far as the crashing goes, it seems to be random. Map changes or if I minimize the game = probably 50 percent chance of a crash. Other than that I crash every 15 minutes or so without fail Last edited by DFA1979; 09-17-2016 at 01:11 AM. |
