Trojan (?) puts up false internet history

Please offer any helpful suggestion or advice if you can do so.

My younger sister was using the laptop and came to me telling me about some false links that keep appearing in the browsing history drop down menu.

She didn't go on these and says they 'came up' or something. I think there must have been some kind of pop-up.

Anyway these false internet history sites won't go away (they're youtube searches) and McAffee has quarantined a few trojans.

I want those things out of our internet history. But conventional means won't work - the website links (a handful) won't leave the menu, can I get rid of them somehow?

Google has a built in feature that automatically suggests searches when you type them in, in the form of a drop down box below the search bar. If you type in something like "How to" it will offer suggestions like:

"How to score A+ on math test"
"How to shot web"
"How to improve your health"
"How to do a barrel roll"
"How to repair your television"

Make sure it's not that, first.

It isn't. It's in the top menu in IE under history.

Apparently it's not that uncommon a problem. Still pretty vexing though.

Your larger problem is all the viruses.

However, under Internet Options there is a button to Delete your history. I would post a full walk through, but mine's a little different because I have IE 8 under Win7.

But as Bridget said: Use Firefox.

I never use IE anymore.
