Where are all the good games at?
In the mid to late 1990s we had:
Doom Doom 2 Final Doom The ultimate Doom Duke Nukem Quake 1 Quakeworld QWTF, CTF, Painskeep....... Diablo 1 Warcraft 2 C&C DOS edition C&C Red Alert Warcraft 2 beyond the dark portal Quake 2 Half-life 1 Counter-Strike Quake 3 Diablo 2 Diablo 2 Expansion After the the year 2000: Doom 3 Far Cry Half-life 2 Counter Strike Source Painkiller Fortress-Forever Maybe I am missing something here. The gaming community has not had a real game released in some time. Its as if the gaming revolution of the 1990s has faded away. In 1997 - 1999 I was waiting on several games to come out, now, I can not think of a single game that I am watching or waiting for. Its as if the gaming world is drying up and fading away. |

All the more recent games you listed are FPSes, and all the old games you mentioned are FPSes or RTSes (or close, like Diablo).
You need to broaden your horizons if you can't find any games you enjoy today. There are plenty out there, but if you stay locked in the same genres forever you're going to get burnt out. |

You didn't mention Fear which I thought was great for it's atmosphere. The first game to truly startle me since Doom2. You also don't mention Generals, Zero Hour, Battlefield 2...Perhaps those weren't to your liking? I liked them.
I think there has been some slowdown in the productions of games. I think part of that is due to longer development cycles with the increased level of sophistication of games. I think that the ongoing maintenance of existing games takes up resources as well. I think that the continued push towards consoles has hurt the availability of development talent for games. We've also seen a number of developers either go out of business or end up being acquired by larger entities. Look at "The Borg of Gaming Companies", EA...how many companies has it swallowed up?

Where is your Bioshock, your Resident Evil 4, your Crysis?
What about Portal, and Gears of War? There are a LOT of games, you're just overlooking them. |

Kev, if you spent less time hunting up snakes to shoot you might be aware of these things.

Portal is not a real game - I finished it in less then 4 hours. And yes, I play PC games only. I forgot a game called "Sacred" - its a RPG like diablo II. Sacred is a pretty good game, I might load it up and play. Last edited by ~kev~; 03-14-2008 at 02:13 PM. |

Oh, and those 4 hours don't include the commentary, extra levels, achievements and challenges, do they?
