Possibility of valve buying out Fortress Forever?

Ok...
Valve are supposidly working on TFC:S which in my opinion will never come out. (Thats if they even are working on it)

Fortress Forever so far looks like an amazing mod from the screenshots which ive seen and i'm sure once it is released word will spread and the game will grow (Thats if the first release is good/fun).

If the game became popular enough do you think valve would try to buy out fortress-forever?

Its possible...

My price is $1m USD, in unmarked, non-consecutive notes...

But seriously, why would they? If they did, it'd have to remain free throughout its life (ala DOD, CS). There's no interest for them to acquire the IP as TFC is essentially the same, and they already own that.

The only way they'd be able to make a buck would be to develop a new engine, make FF2 for it or something and charge people for that. Other than owning it for the sake of owning it, I can't see anything Valve would have to gain from buying it.

No, Valve saw how popular CS was becoming and wanted to cash in on it. HL was a success, but CS was a much larger one that helped the sales of HL immensely.

They'd have to hire/pay off 30+ of us if they were serious.

It will be a while before FF has enough players to draw that much attention, but I bet they've had their eyes on it.

This topic has come up in a number of other threads. In the future, please use the search tool to find one of them, rather than creating a new one.

Thanks!
