Now I'm getting afraid of Steam. It's watching me. Seriously, is that even legal?

Oh I wonder what new tech they're going to demo. Parallax mapping? Relief mapping? Sub-surface scattering?

I just wish there was a steamfree way to play the games. Funny thing about that interview is that Gabe implies/says he gets positive feedback about Steam. I thought no-one liked Steam, is it just me?

Although I find Steam a great program, I'm also becoming a bit iffy about it's future. I can honestly say that I never downloaded a game that wasn't free. Since I want to get involved in the gaming industry myself I don't want to hurt it by costing companies money. |

I like Steam, too. Or at least I don't dislike Steam.

Online distribution is the future. It is so much cheaper to advertise it through a central system and allow users to download it rather then packaging everything up and so on.
Not to mention people are lazy and internet is so quick these days that it's just easier to download over night. |

I don't mind using Steam, but I could imagine that I would have a bad opinion of it if I'd had problems with it in the past.

Anyone who makes maps for source is bound to have a serious dislike of steam, at least in some respects.
Especailly if they mapped around this past newyears and in the last 15 days (Those bastards have gone over 2 weeks leaving hammer broken from an update they forced on us!) |

Yes, people are lazy, but they're impatient too. I don't want to sit around downloading 4 and a half gigs. Even with my broadband connection, that would probably take a couple hours. I could drive (wich I do) to the store and buy the game, have it on CD/DVD in less than half the time it would take to download. Also, what if your download gets corrupted? Man, that would piss me right the fuck off (If I were dl'ing a 4GB file). Are they going to reimburse you for that bandwidth you wasted? |
