FPS Creator
FPS game maker goes DX10
Shoot up your own graphical monstrosities By INQUIRER newsdesk: Wednesday 21 March 2007, 15:18 ONE OF THE FIRST titles to hit the shelves with DirectX 10 support could be one that you might not have heard of - FPS Creator. The software allows amateurs to put together pretty slick-looking first-person shooter games, through the use of simple level editors, along with pre-made models and weapons. You can change themes and created some varied game types. The software is a great first step towards getting dirty with some more hardcore modding and coding. Software development on the project has now hit the next milestone, with a beta of the DX10 functionality being distributed privately to those talking to the company closely. The upgrade adds support for DX10 GPU instancing, which allows for the creation of objects such as doors, windows and enemies on the fly. There are also some pre-set water and bloom effects that give you some gorgeous graphics with the minimum of effort. There are many features in the process of implementation but not in the DX10 implementation currently, including bloom strength and tint, water density and reflection properties, as well as stencil shadows, shadow detail levels and the like. Developers at The Game Creators, the studio behind the title, have been working pretty closely with Nvidia to make sure the DX10 stuff runs as you'd expect on an 8800. We suspect that they haven't managed to get their hands on an R600 yet! FPS Creator is over here - check it out if you fancy a play, and talk to Nvidia if you want to get in on the closed DX10 beta. |

Wtf? you don't need dx10 for bloom. That worked with dx7, maybe earlier...

Yeah it still uses crappy effects but they just use the DX10 render path, nothing special. Seems pointless to me, stick to DX9.
