Tagging.

Given how quickly players respawn in fortress forever, killing a player right out is not always the best option. When you spot a spy, often, the best option is to shoot them with your sniper rifle and let them continue on. After being shot with the sniper rifle, they will be "radio tagged", displaying their class and team to all players on your team for 30 seconds.
