That was indeed part of it... I was running through a walkthrough as to how to get your fort started. It says to get to digging. I do the Designate > Dig thing, and the walkthrough says that it should indicate the dig area with a yellow square. It doesn't! Aaaagh.
I guess I'll look up this graphic pack thingy.
