Yes, it is quite amazing how calling them a morphed word of "negro" (i.e. Spanish for black) is such a terrible thing.
Few hundred years ago, uppity white dudes called people with more melanin "negroes", Spanish for black, as a form of slang.
Now that tables are reversed, with darker skinned people saying "Hey, what's up my nigga?"... fun thing is, anyone remotely light skinned can not use it for fear of inciting a race riot.
Except for Spanish people.
And Asians.
And of course, do not forget about Chris Rock.
