I agree with the general consensus about vacuums. The risk definitely there to fry your components from a static discharge. Even if you ground yourself first. If you have shoes on and are moving around on the carpet while you're vacuuming, you will create additional static and potentially discharge it onto sensitive components.
I generally go out in the driveway with a can of air. Like Innoc said. Even if you hold the can upside down and spray frozen liquid onto your computer, it will dissipate in a minute or 2.
If you are really accumulating that much dust in only a 4 month period, maybe a thorough cleaning of your office is in order?
