how is playing a different game going to help his FF? It's not even that comparable really, nothing but raytrace aim transfers over. You could say go play <insert nearly any FPS> to help a lot!
The only way you're going to get over the FF learning curve really, is by playing FF. Yes, that probably means sucking for a while. What's important is finding a class you find fun to play regardless. As long as you stick with it you'll find yourself progressing.
