FWIW, everyone parents differently. My 9 year old knows I've played FPS games but is not allowed to watch or play. Personally I think there's alot to be said for the preservation of innocence. There's plenty of time to become jaded and worldly later on...sadly enough.

Funny, for an old guy. You should let your kid play, nobody likes a hypocrite. (Unless you let him play eventually) I'm 82 by the way. No, I'm 16.
