You could walk anywhere aside the road in the original too, some classic ways of getting over were with a detpack if the server had it so the beaners couldn't be killed by ... was it yellow? Can't recall. Also, them jumping on each other's heads.
Was brilliant in quake1 because of the quakeguy model haha, gibs flew everywhere.
