Gun ownership here is a right. We do not have to have a license to exercise our rights. That would be the same as telling someone they have to have license to go to church, post a political blog, or vote. After the US civil war, some states required blacks to have a license to vote. That law was struck down and a legal standard was set.

Some states and cities do require citizens to have a permit to own a gun. A case is being seen by our supreme court to get such laws struck down. No gun law challenges have gone before the supreme court in 60 years.

Its not the guns that kill people, its the person behind the trigger. A gun is just a tool. Criminals to do care about gun laws anyway. Restrictions only hurt the law abiding citizen. If a criminal wants a gun, they will get it one way or another - even if they have to steal it.

More people are killed by drunk drivers then guns, so ban cars and trucks. More people are killed by medical mistakes then guns - so ban all doctors. Cancer kills more people every year then guns, so lets outlaw cancer. AIDS has killed about 25 million people in the last 25 years, so lets outlaw HIV/AIDS.

An unarmed citizen is not a citizen, that person is a servant. Only through the ownership of guns are all other rights guaranteed.

A quote from Adolf Hitler, 1935
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future."

We all know what happened later, 6 - 10 millions jews were gassed. If the Jewish people would have had guns, history would have had a different ending.

In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

The US army in the 1800's murdered untold tens of thousands of north American Indians. Some of the Indians had guns and were able to put up a good fight. Those that did not have guns where slaughtered.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

And more recent:

Thousands of monks detained in Burma's main city of Rangoon will be sent to prisons in the far north of the country, sources have told the BBC.

About 4,000 monks have been rounded up in the past week as the military government has tried to stamp out pro-democracy protests.
Any more complaints about gun ownership? Its not the citizens gun ownership we should worry about, its the guns of the government.
