Pick up Nades

Im not talking about dropping unused grenades to the ground when you're dead for other people to pick up, no...

Im talking if someone throws a grenade without priming it and its just sitting there, we should be able to grab n toss it while taking the risk of it blowing up in our hands.

there are plenty of times in maps when the team chucks nades at the front door or at a entrance to their base without priming them, hoping to get a spam kill with their mirv or emp.

i dont see whats so bad about being able to pick them up and throw them away so u can keep your speed up...

Right now when someone on team A throws a grenade, it can only damage people on team B or the player who threw it (when FF is off). However if someone on team B picked it up and tried to throw it, would it switch and only damage players from team A instead? If so that is what Bridget is talking about.

The knockback occurs when your teammate throws a grenade at you regardless. So does that mean you'd like all grenades to be removed too or just accept that with any game, griefing will happen, and let server admins deal with it.

friendly fire disabled ruins ff imo. creates spam.

You can start by removing grenade push force on team-mates.

Bri i think calling it griefing is definitely going a little far, but i do agree that its a silly mechanic for a fast paced game. Your enemy shouldnt have the chance to throw the grenade back, a good player can time/cook their grenades to go off in the opposing players face, at least, its more effective that way

This would prevent people from spamming mirvs at front door locations or on top of the flag when theyre about to die, among other things.

Enabling this feature would only make people learn to prime their grenades and throw them better.

it adds to the game... nothing negative about it. ur dumb caz ur mad

It adds something that would work against new players. We have enough problems with new players sticking as it is. While I disagree with Bridget's idea that all mechanics should be instantly accessible to newcomers, there's no need to add more potentially confusing and annoying idiosyncracies.

Whats so confusing about it? It's something I would do in real life - pretty much common sense.

You must be easily confused, I'm trying to make the game more fun for everybody, including newbs - I dont see how this is confusing... you either try to pickup n toss the nade or you dont.... it just adds a little more depth to fighting in FF WHILE ALSO REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF SPAM.... Win Win.

Gets tickled by FF

Not much a fan of the idea either. I'd much rather have shorter timers. The long timers force a degree of spam in this game.

Very few other games have it as a feature. It would be unique to FF and therefore unfamiliar to new players. FF already has a lot of idiosyncracies compared to most modern fpses.

Which button would it be bound to? Who the hell would use it when they can throw their own nades and have much more control? The only class without damaging nades is the scout, and what sort of scout is going to stop chasing the flag in order to pick up and throw a dropped grenade back, when he could avoid/skirt past it? Overall I think it would feel awkward, and not fit with the flow of the game.

considering you dont play competitively says enough.

How's it a problem in competitive play? The players there know how to prime their nades. You wouldn't even be using this feature that often there. So, really, playing competitively means jack shit as a qualification. I know it's your back-up plan, Chef, but seriously.

It solves very little. This game is far too fast for the mechanic in the first place. If the Engineer wasted his time trying to grab the 'nade to chuck it back, his gun would be down regardless. People who already know how to prime suffer nothing. Players that spam 'nades become a detriment to their team by giving the enemy team ammunition to throw at their team-mates, which violates a design principle with FF. It doesn't solve spam. It merely reverses the direction of spam. It would be too confusing to new players too. Why is my grenade coming back at me? It's also griefable, considering grenade push force works on team-mates. Nothing like grabbing a concussion grenade or MIRV and chucking it at your friendly Engineer, who gets blown away by the knockback and can no longer repair his setup. It's just a dumb idea. It would make sense if this were a slowed down tactical shooter, but it's not, so get over it.

I'll say it a million times over, if you want to reduce spam, you could make 'nade power ramp up the longer you keep them primed. Throwing unprimed 'nades means the grenade does next to no damage. Keeping the grenade primed all the way through would give you full power. There's your incentive to prime your grenades and use them wisely. No one loses except spammers. There could even be an aura around grenades to show how powerful they will be upon detonation.

Yes, but that doesn't make it fine and dandy. When I see something that serves no purpose and can be griefed, then I don't use it as justification for more griefable mechanics. I use it as justification for getting rid of those mechanics or making them less or non-griefable. What point is it having grenade knockback on team-mates? None that I know of.

True. I would also like to see more no build areas built near security buttons to prevent someone from griefing by putting their SG on the button. Super annoying if you play scout a lot.

I have played a few pickups over the past few weeks, but atm I'm busy with other shit. Regardless, how I play the game is pretty much irrelevant. I think I know the game well enough to pass judgement on whether a mechanic is a good one.

I agree with Bridget's point that FF is too fast for this to be viable. That was what I was sort of aiming at in my last post, but Bridget hit the nail on the head.
