Badlands, Rock, 4fort, Etc.

Is there any chance we will see an official version of Rock or Badlands from Fortress Forever? I think I played a custom map of Badlands that was in beta phase, but one made by the developers would be appreciated. Also, I've heard great things about Rock2 and would love to play it finally. I see there are some screens on the website but those have been there forever and I imagine the map is or was in limbo for some time. 4fort...because it sounds neat.

Badlands, hopefully soon, the map is playable but a bit laggy and a few other issues. Its the same badlands you played but its going to get finish by a dev. Rock2... well Gambit been busy with life so hopefully he can past along the map to someone else.

I doubt we will see more remakes anytime soon (besides badlands and rock2). The team is trying to focus more on ID, ADZ, AvD maps.

the pictures on the website of Rock2 are wayyyy out of date, you can see some current SS's by clicking the link in my signature. i have been very busy with life, having 4 kids and going to school while holding down a 40 hour a week job. yea, pretty busy. but, i have found some time here and there to work on it.

I have a question for ya.....in the 5th screenshot, near the showers. Did you forget the boxes next to the lockers for jumping up to the ledge level? Or are you able to jump from the pipe there to the top of the locker?

Sorry, but what does ID and ADZ stand for?

ID = Invade & Defend, I think. I have no clue what ADZ is, Attack Defend with zones? beats me.

Almost. ADZ is Attack and Defend the Zone. (And there will also be IDZ; Invade and Defend the Zone).

For clarification, AD/AvD (Attack and Defend/Attackers vs Defenders) maps are dustbowl and anticitizen, where each cap point is in a different "section" with setup times in between each round. The map ends when the last capture point is capped (or time runs out)

ID (Invade and Defend) maps are cornfield and palermo, where the flag returns to the last capped point and there are no separate set-up times between cap points (teams swap after all points have been capped).

ADZ maps (impact is the only one released so far) have only one zone and have a 4-round system (teams swap after 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the maptime has expired).

IDZ maps (none released so far) will have multiple zones and teams will swap after all zones have been captured.

That's what too confusing for the average player. Come up with a new name for those gamemodes...

What do you suggest? Gametype names are rather arbitrary in general (see TF2's "Payload" gametype). AvD and ID are from TFC, and ADZ and IDZ are logical extensions of those names.

The abbreviations are fine, but the amount of different gametypes is not a good thing if you're hoping to attract a solid new player base.

The best mods have always kept it simple and had one or two modes that lasted throughout their lives. The modes were always easy to learn but difficult to master. The skilled players could play them on a totally different level to the new players and there was always something to learn or an area to improve. The new players could easily learn the gameplay and play a part for their team as well as having their own fun.

Right now you have so many different game modes it's going to end up confusing and it could also end up harming the quality of an otherwise very good mod.

You should be looking at three gametypes at the most initially, all of which should be easy to understand and exciting to play whether you are a veteran or a newcomer.

This doesn't mean I don't like some of the new gametypes, I do. The ID gametype is far superior to AvD as far as I'm concerned and I would much rather it was one of the chosen three than the classic AvD.

I would personally choose CTF, CP and ID as the main gameplay types. CP being Capture Point maps like CZ2 (not sure if there is a superior abbreviation for these or not).

Those three modes are all easy to understand, none of them are particularly similar to the other, all have a much higher replay value and they lend themselves far better to competetive play as well.

We agree, and hope that these new gametypes (ADZ/IDZ) will allow that to happen. We got a late start, but we should have new ADZ/IDZ maps coming out consistently in no time.
