Spanish translation:
Code:
"GameUI_GameMenu_FFOptions" "OPCIONES FORTRESS" Also, directed to the original translation, I've noticed that the detpack timer is referred as "Mecha de X segundos"; I think it would be better if it was "Temporizador de X segundos". "Mecha" is a candle wick in English, and I believe the Detpack does not run with that (unless you are using the TNT skin, of course!) |
Heh. I don't know what that's supposed to mean, either. There's a list of sliders, and you can adjust how many dynamic lights are used for each effect, relatively.

Portuguese brazilian translation to remaining text:
Code:
"GameUI_GameMenu_FFOptions" "OPÇÕES DO FORTRESS" |
Just a little warning dont put Portuguese (br) as standard portuguese language because its not, Portuguese from portugal is the standard language. Best option imo is to put Portuguese and Portuguese (Br).

British english isn't standard english, even as american english isn't. |

I also believe the first one was in TFC, and yeah, it's shorter and perfectly understandable, so there it is ("¡En la cabeza", "¡En la pierna!"). As for the second one, I think you're right. Sometimes one just wants to stick to the original translation to make it as precise as possible, but then you find you're just making it harder to understand, so it's better to rephrase things a bit as long as you just give players the right idea. Thank you both for revising this stuff. Sometimes when you're translating such big chunks of strings, you lose a bit of perspective and even forget part of the context where they appear, thus writing weird-looking translations. Plus some typos always slip here and there, no matter how many times you revise it :D BTW, I guess the "95.8 CAPITAL" thing won't be used anymore, so it really doesn't matter what we write there, right? Can any dev confirm this? Thanks! (Already replaced the old post with the new translations). |
I never saw a school teacher teaching US English :P outside of US, so that makes it standard : )
About translating it to PT, meh dont have the patiente, and ill use English anyway. Translated would feel like a bad German film with voice actors translating it to pt .P |
especially if done by you zE ;)
|
Does the translation include vocals or just written down stuff? Guess I could help with swedish translation, but I doubt swedes will use it. We know how to SPEACH ENGGHHLLISH
|
Well we'd love to do vocals, but there's whole worlds of problems with that. You can't just speak into a headset and have good quality stuff come out.
All of our sounds were done with professional-level recording equipment and mixed by guys who are in the industry. For now, the text would be good enough. Me, I'd really like to see Japanese done since they had a decent TFC league going back in the day, buuut... yeah. I don't write the language well enough to tackle a huge document like that. |= |
I'm working on getting you guys the non-english characters you need. I have a working version of the FF font, but there are some issues with it that I have to fix. No promises, but hopefully I can have it rdy by the time we release 2.4

I only took half a semester and i'm still learning it so there's bound to be a lot of errors, especially grammatically for the sentences; but for all the single-word stuff it seems to be pretty spot on. I'm mostly doing this for practice, but if it turns out good enough and if someone could double check my work when i'm done, that'd be awesome. |

But many people prefer to use language translation because they don't understand english. I translated it for this people and for FF cause. |
Friend and I are working on Russian translation. ;D

Cool thank you.
And something else: As new stuff is added to the game, it will also need to be translated. So... how will we keep track of new added stuff? I mean, if it was just added at the end of the language file, it would be a matter of replacing everything until that point with the translated strings we already have (copy&paste) and then translate everything below that. However, if things are changed mid-file (which obviously needs to be done), how will we keep track of what's been changed/added and what's not? I guess we'll have to go through the whole file again with every update as if it was the first time, right? |
well, the goal would be to log all of those and not make you have to search for them...but idk how well we log that (if at all). So yeah if it's not being logger then you would have to. :(
|
I'm thinking this: As soon as we get the font done, we can release language packs. There's no reason to wait for a patch. If we add new strings, I'll just add the string in English on the end of the file. Then you can translate them whenever you like.
|
That is a Russian translate. It's not over and I continue work with it.
P.S my English is awful  Code:

Gordon, Крутота, мне просто содержимое файлика заменить?
А эти иероглифы в главном меню пропадут? Или для этого тоже шаманить надо? |
кириллический шрифт не пока работает в этой игре.
|
Bad... But why?
|
The Fortress Forever HUD fonts do not support it.
|
I was young and had enough knowledge of English. language to complete the transfer.
But now when I gained experience I had almost completed the translation. and posted screenshots of the creators of the modification. http://clip2net.com/clip/m59040/thum...clip-920kb.jpg http://clip2net.com/clip/m59040/thum...clip-981kb.jpg http://clip2net.com/clip/m59040/thum...clip-603kb.jpg http://clip2net.com/clip/m59040/thum...clip-542kb.jpg |
I shall help the FF team to translate to Mandarin
|
I guess this thread is dead?
|
Um...Hello? I know you guys stopped posting here for about 'some' time now, but i am interested in translating FF to Brazilian Portuguese(pt-BR). I wanna know if you guys are still doing this because i don't wanna start translating before knowing if my file is going to be added in the game or not.

I'd love if Brazilian players started playing. They revived pub TFC, and are always looking for free games ;) |

Just one thing to the devs: i simply REFUSE to translate class names because in portuguese, and many other languages, they sound dumb and stupid. I'm serious. |
Yeah i could see that, something like soldier or sniper might be fine but I could imagine words such as pyro, medic, heavy etc sounding quite dumb in other languages.
I'm sure people will know the classes even with english names. |
Pyro = "El Enfuegador" :mrgreen:
But yeah, totally do a translation, squeek would probably be helpful getting the strings to you. Always good to get some more freegame seeking people in here. |

https://github.com/fortressforever/f...scripts/pull/8 If you're familiar with Git, then you can fork the fortressforever-scripts repository and make changes to the language/portuguese-br branch and submit those changes as a pull request. If you're not familiar/comfortable with Git, you can look at the existing translation here and then post any corrections/updates in this thread and I'll incorporate them. The current English strings can be found here. |
I was reading the whole thread until i found out that a guy named Gemini Saga, who is a brazilian, already made the translations BUT that was in 2009, the file has more stuff in it now then before AND is organized differently (just compare the files posted here on this thread and your file to see the difference).
I tried to load the old file with the new version of FF, didn't work. I'm gonna talk to him and see if i can start all over again using his translations on the new file(maybe change some if i feel like it), and translate the new strings as well. This will take some time, unless someone has a better and faster idea on how to make this easier for me... |
Quote:
|
So, squeek., i see that the translation has 773 lines while the original english file has 975 lines and both are organized differently. How can i know which lines were added to it? The new ones, i mean. So i can translate what's different, or maybe even Gemini himself if he's still active...And how can i put everything together translated into one file? Because if i was going to manually paste his translations to the new file and change the new lines as well, it would take a lot of time, but IF that's the only option i'm cool with that.

Added: I'll try to generate you an updated template that includes Gemini's translated strings. |

http://pastebin.com/asT442Bc Any untranslated strings will be in English. The rest use Gemini's translations. The format/ordering exactly match the English language file. Generated using this Lua script. |
