Utilities, Share yours

A place to share and discover nifty utilities. Can be anything so long as it's purpose is useful.

The few things I'm using and now consider essential are:

RBTray* or Trayit!
Folder Marker (free)* or iColorFolder
Tinyspell
Unlocker

And the more common:
Rainelender (thanks Drain Bamaged)
Rocketdock with Stacks Docklet

I am after a alternative to windows clipboard. Haven't had a proper look yet because as with everything there are so many around and many variations. Any recommendations?

Edit:
From now on please post like this so post are easy to see and don't get buried:

Unlocker
"Unlocker is an explorer extension that allows you with a simple right-click of the mouse on a file or folder to get rid of error message such as error deleting file or folder, cannot delete folder"

You, sir, are welcome.

Apps I use:

Objectdock, kinda like Rocketdock but different.

Hott notes 4: this is a BILSS when you have a habit of forgetting stuff, and I have one!

And I'm experimenting with Aston Shell, I'm trying to convert the entire desktop to look like the DODnetSystems menu in Crysis.

That's about it, iColorFolder looks nice, might use it.

Google Desktop w/ analog clock, scratch pad, Gmail, weather, 6 shortcuts and a recycle bin.

Suits me.

Looks like you need a recovery cd a LOT.

Check out Hiren's Boot cd, that's a good one too.

If it contains all that is listed, I'm impressed! I'm downloading the rar now.

Yeah it's very usefull if friends call you alot with questions like 'hey, my screen turns blue and I can't do anything, can you come check it out?' :p

But seriously, it's about the only cd you'll ever need to un-fuck a fucked up system.

Acid Reflux 09-10-2008 11:46 AM

TweakUI is a MUST for any windows system. The only GUI modification I use (if you can call it that) is Yahoo Widgets with simple CPU, RAM, and Bandwidth gauges. I have a few other widgets, but nothing I use often.

I've considered messing with some GUI mods, but most of them are either useless, clutter, or crazy window hacks that can cause stability issues.

Good stuff guys.

The Wonderful Icon

About The Wonderful Icon:
The Wonderful Icon 2.2 is a small Windows utility that resides in your PC's taskbar tray. Try it and you'll be hooked!
TWI has lots of wonderful features. With it, you can:
  • Assign hotkeys for common tasks such as minimize windows, restart Windows, etc.
  • Minimize programs onto the taskbar tray instead of just onto the taskbar, either by a keystroke or by right-clicking a window's Minimize button with your mouse
  • Configure a menu of easily-accessible commands
  • Increase or decrease speaker volume with the press of a button
  • Automatically run programs at start-up, and hide them, minimize them to the taskbar tray, etc.
  • Lots more!
  • Oh yeah, and it's free!

I have been using rocketdock, but that stack docklet is very nice... Any suggestions on where to get some better winxp themes (I forget the name of the specific .dll) and nice wallpapers?

Crazycarl 09-14-2008 04:57 AM

SequoiaView
Shows the contents of your drive as boxes relative to the files's size. Extremely useful if you need to make space but you don't know what to delete.

That looked baffling at very first glance. Gave it an install, damn PG2 is using 7gb atm. Would never have thought. This is indeed extremely useful.
