SSD vs HDD?

I've got Win7 sitting here unopened since October, waiting to add another drive to my system for the install on a clean fast drive (will be upgrading from XP).

Originally, I was going to wait until the SSD's (looking at Intel's X-25M) dropped to something approaching reasonable. But that day still seems far off for now.

My question is if any of you've had experience with an SSD as the O/S drive, and what you're opinions are? I've read tons of commentaries, tests, benchmarks, etc etc on SSD's, and my concerns (besides price) are mainly concerning reliability. Read many 'horror' stories about premature failures (DOA, after a few days, within a few months) and that bothers me.

The other choice I have is to get another Velociraptor (got a 300GB one now and loving it) instead of the SSD, or even to get a Caviar Black (although that's somewhat overkill as I already have 2 data drives of 750GB) since the benchmarks aren't that far below the V-raptor.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

2x raptors in raid 0 have done the buisness for the last few years for me. I would like to move to SSD at some point but cant really fault my current setup. Maybe when the prices fall i will.

Same as bully had 2 10K raptors in raid for a while now, switched to win7 from xp yesterday..

They've always got me in the game the fastest and winows boot is fast enough for me so I'm quite happy with what I got. Up to you how you want to part with the money $/GB
