need a new setup tut for hammer

cmon guys... ive read over the sticky, and damn. its a cluster-fuck of instructions. most of which are completely out of date.

I have tried setting up hammer to start some mapping again and all i keep doing is this:

is there anyway to get it cleaned up a bit and get rid of the old info? and perhaps get some instructions up that actually work?

Dexter 03-12-2014 08:14 PM

Now would be a good time for someone to figure out how to properly install hammer after steampipe.

Okay, here's what I did. Go to steamapps/common/sourcesdk/bin/ep1/bin and open GameConfig.

Copy/paste this into it, changing your account name of course.

Also remove (x86) if you have 64bit architecture.

Code:

"Configs"
{
        "Games"
        {
                "Fortress Forever"
                {
                        "GameDir"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever"
                        "hammer"
                        {
                                "GameData0"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever\ff_base.fgd"
                                "GameData1"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever\fortressforever.fgd"
                                "TextureFormat"                "5"
                                "MapFormat"                "4"
                                "DefaultTextureScale"                "0.250000"
                                "DefaultLightmapScale"                "16"
                                "DefaultSolidEntity"                "func_detail"
                                "DefaultPointEntity"                "info_ff_script"
                                "BSP"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin\vbsp.exe"
                                "Vis"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin\vvis.exe"
                                "Light"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin\vrad.exe"
                                "GameExeDir"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever"
                                "MapDir"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever\maps\vmf"
                                "BSPDir"                "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\sourcemods\FortressForever\maps"
                                "CordonTexture"                "tools/toolsskybox"
                                "MaterialExcludeCount"                "0"
                        }
                }
        }
        "SDKVersion"                "3"
}

oaties forgot to add "common" to the path file which is how steampipe has changed the SDK location. Then, do what alex did.

1. Open SourceSDK
2. "Refresh SDK Content" (because we changed the gameconfig)
3. "Edit Game Configurations"
4. Click "Add".
5. Type "Fortress Forever" under 'Name'
6. Add the Directory of the Fortress Forever folder. Select 'Ok'
7. Launch Hammer

tut tut im a newt

KubeDawg 11-30-2014 07:58 PM

Largos, please edit your post as you put the wrong directory to the GameConfig.txt file.

It's not located in the /common folder, but this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\youremail@
fatchicksinpartyhats.com\sourcesdk\bin\ep1\bin

FDA_Approved 11-30-2014 08:08 PM

Umm, no?

KubeDawg 11-30-2014 08:13 PM

Is your name Largos?

FDA_Approved 11-30-2014 08:18 PM

I'm saying I think you're wrong. If you have anything of that sort left in your steam user directory it's likely obsolete and outdated. Steam pipe has put pretty much everything in common. The only directories you should have to deal with for current FF is /common and /sourcemods, and once the steam version launches it should all be in /common.

Edit: Although, it seems largos did make the mistake of putting the user directory in front of /common for some of the file paths in the text file, when it should be steamapps/common.

KubeDawg 11-30-2014 08:48 PM

Ok so there are 2 different directories based on whether or not you had Source SDK installed prior to the steampipe update, as the directory Largos posted is unavailable for me while the one I posted, is.

Edit: screenshots to show an example so those who have the same 'outdated' setup as I can follow suit.

Edited. Fixed. I hope.

[TALOS]Smoke 12-01-2014 05:04 PM

It would seem that maybe sourcesdk is borked in general. No matter which mod I try to run in hammer keeps returning the same message about missing the default view file. I've deleted and reinstalled sdk, verified files and still same message. I'd love to be able to dl the standalone hammer, but not quite sure where to look.
Don't forget that as long as you don't mess with hammer and still have the "pre-beta" FF installed it should still work fine, it looks like all you will have to do is move the maps and related into the common/Fortress Forever folders
