Got a new DSi, need games.

Help me out.

Current shopping list:
  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  • Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
  • Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
  • Kirby Super Star Ultra
  • Mario Kart DS
  • New Super Mario Bros.

Currently owned:
  • Brain Age 2

It's a DSi, so no GBA games. I was sad too.

For any of you that have played them, are any of the Castlevania DS games not worth getting? If so, why? And what would be the best order to pick up the worthwhile games if they can't be gotten all at once? Chronological?

The Castlevania DS games are amazing. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is good so far, Zelda Phantom Hourglass is good, Meteos is a good action-puzzle game. Final Fantasy III and IV are good if you like that kind of game. Kirby Super Star Ultra too.

The last DS game I really liked was Mario Kart DS. I want to recommend Animal Crossing, but it's not as fun as the Gamecube version since you can't collect and play old NES games.

New Super Mario Bros.
Yoshi's Island DS
GTA:Chinatown Wars - An AMAZING game that is well worth the buy. It's a shame it never took off.
Henry Hatworth - A very neat puzzle/platformer... despite some annoying points (very long attack animations make countering difficult)
Geometry Wars Galaxies - Orgasmic time-waster
Tetris DS - One of the hardest DS games to find... but tons of fun.
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - If you like old-school point and clicks adventure games, pick it up :)

I refuse to have anything to do with Kingdom Hearts or Zelda anymore. Meteos I'll check out, I've already played FF3/4, and did you say Super Star Ultra? I am so getting that.

Mario Kart DS! Yes. Yes, of course!

New SMB, I've seen good things. Yes. And Yoshi's Island, we can try that. Chinatown Wars, we can try that. Okay, y'know what, everything Mooga said is on the at-least-check-it-out list.

I second the Henry Hatsworth. Girlfriend got it with her DS for Christmas, it's a lot of fun.
Also Mario 64 DS.
New SMB.

I actually liked Yoshi's Island more then Mario Bros because the game was longer (and harder) IMO.

Truthfully with the 2 Zelda games... They are fun, but the Touch-screen-only controls really suck. Well, less suck and more anoying as fuck.

What type of games do you like?
I happen to be a puzzle guy, so Picross DS is fun as well as Puzzle Quest.

Also... The Pokemon games are good if you don't mind the grinding. I got sick of grinding and gave up on it :-P

It's a shame you have a DSi... no Guitar Hero :'(

3 Castlevanias
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2
Professor Layton 1 + 2
Mario Fart DS
Advance Wars

I don't care what anyone says, that Princess Peach game was pretty fun. More fun than the New Super Mario Bros.

Mooga 12-29-2009 01:32 AM

I got the snd Advance Wars and got bored of it quickly...
I want to play Princess Peach, but it's hard to find :(

I played the original Castlevanias...the DS versions lost my interest fast. I love the Final Fantasy games...even Orcs and Elves wasn't half bad....but it wasn't hard.

Touchmaster
Mariokart
Brainage
Warhammer 40K
Etrian Oddyssey
Worms 1 and Worms 2

I have a bunch more but am not all that clear what it is you like.

Meteos and Geometry Wars are great time wasters. Layton's is good, too. Most DS puzzle games are.

I wouldn't suggest the SM64 port, the controls are terrible. I got a headache playing it for ten minutes. And the Zelda games...only if you're really into Zelda. Phantom Hourglass was awful.

Mooga 12-29-2009 11:08 PM

Worms 2 was good because they actually worked with Team 17. I heard The first one was not nearly as great.

that's my view...plus networking in 1 did not work

Don't worry about what I like, I can go off recommendations and do a little research. I basically know fuck-all about DS games, though, and without this thread I'd've bought the Castlevanias and been done with it. I gots preconceived notions.

Mooga 12-30-2009 02:23 PM

The DS is a wonderful system. Keep an open mind and you'll find lots of good games. I will say that this past year has been at a bit of a bad year for the DS...

why so? What am I missing that made this a bad year for the DS? I do agree that there's a ton of good games out there. I have a ton of great puzzle games for the ds.

Mooga 12-30-2009 10:48 PM

Just not many great games...

Desyphur 12-31-2009 03:38 AM

Since they haven't been mentioned, the Pheonix Wright series is pretty awesome.

Circuitous 12-31-2009 05:48 PM

How the hell do those play? All I know is OBJECTION!! and that one guy has this awesome mask thing that no human could get away with in a professional setting.

Mooga 12-31-2009 06:18 PM

I've heard they are fun to play, but you can only really play through them once.
I have never played them because I've only been told you are better off borrowing them then paying :-P
