Wonder if anyone here agrees with me, but to contribute to this thread: I believe that the new The Mars Volta album is pretty good.

For Blues... Pinetop Perkins Muddy Waters Band B.B. King Mr. Clapton Henry Gray The Howlin' Wolf Band Bryan Lee Jay Gordon Stevie Ray Vaughan Johnny Winter Blind Boy Fuller Bukka White Ledbelly Just to name a few. For my classic rock... Edgar Winter Group The James Gang AC/DC The Zep EVH (early works) Steppenwolf George Thorogood And The Destroyers Cream The Band Lynyrd Skynyrd The Jimi Hendrix Experience Early Sabbath (Ozzy) Pink Floyd To name a few. For my 'recent' rock... Los Lonely Boys Alice in Chains Bad Religion Foo Fighters Pride and Glory Velvet Revolver Guns 'n' Roses (early) Tool Pearl Jam Incubus Pushmonkey Black Stone Cherry (Minus that shitty train song... they do a great version of Hoochie Coochie Man) Priestess Jet Wolfmother Queens of the Stone Age Radiohead The Good, The Bad, and The Queen Phantom Planet To name just about all of them. For my metal... Black Label Society (all of it) Tool (mentioned twice as they aren't really metal or rock) Megadeth (early years) Judas Priest Motorhead Deep Purple Killswitch (assorted) Pantera Not in a metal mood so I can't think of many off the top of my head =\. As for individual artists (guitarists)... Jeff Beck Steve Vai Joe Satriani Stevie Ray Vaughan B.B. King Les Paul (yeah, the jazz player) Trey Anastasio David Gilmoure There are a few more that I can't remember =\. That's a sampling. I've still got my assorted easy listening albums, assorted funk, and a bit of Motown. Edit: You won't find many bands that are big now in the list. In fact, you probably won't find many bands that have been big in the last 10 years on the list. It's because the quality of music has gone down. |

I've been on a Big Audio Dynamite kick of late. My son is absolutely taken with their music...which shifts him off his fascination with The Hives thankfully. I sure miss BAD....started with a bang and ended with a whimper...

Also the terrible.
(Says the guy listening to Linkin Park - In The End as he types this.) |
Credge man, you list is pretty much every band I listen to...great choices man.
Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but if anyone listens to music a ton, I suggest Pandora. It's completely free, all you do is enter the names of bands you like and then it will play that band and similar bands that it thinks you would like. Rarely does it plug in something I don't like. The only downside that I have found is that if you don't approve a song for a really long time, then it will eventually stop playing and ask you if your paying attention. But it takes like 2hrs or something to do that... |
