Where it all started... half life screenshots

So I reciently found a program that looks in my picture gallaries on my harddrive and within 10 seconds it can create an html file for me to upload to my site. I had so much fun with it that I will most likely go back and create thumbnail picture gallaries of the whole half life series....

but take a moment, go back in time, and remember where this all started. See screenshots of the game that lit a fire under our butts and made us want more.

Heheh... I though you were a bot trying to sell something at first.

Yes, I'm a dork.

Anyway, yeah... I have a pretty large HL2 and CSS "game photography" project that I started long ago. I need to finish the HL2 one now that I have a lot better graphics. In the meantime, I should upload my old pics.

I think another thread just like this popped up today. I need to find it and merge the threads.

I only beat HL1 like two weeks ago for the first time... I just never got around to it.

This thread on the Penny Arcade forums inspired me to pick it up again and beat it. :3

LOL... I've played it about 5 times. Then I played HL Source. Plus, I know I'll play Black Mesa too. Then I'll play the HL2 series again just to have it all as "story".

HL had better textures in their 1997 phase :( they had to cut it up with odd resolutions and such to try to fit on 4mb video cards (ending up looking worse since they used odd resolutions, causing stuff to ROUND UP and eat more memory while looking more blocky)

Brings back a lot of good memories. I remember freaking out over playing Uplink. HL is still one of my favorite games of all time and I'm eagerly looking forward to Black Mesa: Source.

Yeah, but the beautiful part of having the original CDs, is that you can do a clean install and play the original. I've done it with TFC as well.
Damned shame FoXbot doesn't work with the original install.

hmmmm

Am I supposed to take this to mean that Black Mesa Source may be released soon? I'm really hoping that this thread is a purposeful trip down memory lane.

I agree with you completely.

/wishful thinking?

As far as Team Fortress is concerned, it was Quake that got me into it. Half Life was next generation at the time.

I suppose one would never know for sure till it happened.

I never actually deleted my original HL1 installation...along with TFC. Foxbot 697 works fine. ;)

It will not work with a fresh install ?
I suppose you'd need the incremental updates that came along to make it work.

Man, if I had a dollar for every time a woman gave me an answer like that. The interpretation can be tricky at first, but now I know......treat her with respect, be effortlessly attentive and she will probably grant your wish.........I'm pretty sure........

Either way, I'm still tingling with anticipation.......for Black Mesa Source, of course.

He probably attempted to play Foxbot on pre-1.1 HL which has a different and incompatible network protocol.

God I remember those times of modders panicking over the latest patch update horking the SDK and such. but vgui came out of it ;)

Right. I did try it on a freshly installed HL/TFC install, without any of the updates, and it wouldn't work.
Bring it up to 1.5, and it works fine.

Also, I like how back in the WON days, TFC was just a "mod", and on Steam, it's a $10 stand alone game.........

Imagine my conundrum then if you will of knowing the answer to your quivering question, yet knowing I will be fired and thumped from the team if I ever told a hint of what I knew one way or another? Can you imagine a woman knowing a secret and not being able to tell it?
