TF2 Doomed? Sorry...

... for another TF2 thread

I don't know how many of you have been following up on TF2 but I have to say these "new" developments have got me thinking I'll be a FF gamer souly, as opposed to playing both FF and TF2.

This is a sum up a guy did from an article in a german gaming magazine "PC Action" I don't know how official this information is but it's supposed to be coming from valve directly by interview.

Quote:

General

* There won't be "normal" grenades anymore. Valve thinks that they unify the different classes too much.

* Unlike in Fortress Forever, teleporters are kept in Team Fortress 2. The ammo dispenser will make a comeback as well.

* There will be a personalized statistics system. For example, you could see an in-game message like "Hey, you've never played your class as well as today - keep it up!"

* Valve thinks that classes in other games are a joke. "Where's the difference between me choosing a M16 or an AK-47 rifle?", asks Robin Walker.

* It would be technically feasible to let owners of a PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 play against each other. Whether this feature makes it into the final game is still uncertain and depends on Sony and Microsoft.

* Valve received very few threatening letters because of TF2's comic design.

* Owners of multicore processors will get additional, undisclosed, graphics details.

Classes

* The Scout can perform a double jump, as known from the Unreal games. That is, he'll be able to jump a second time while in the air.

* The Medic can heal team members from long distances, as long as they are in sight. Furthermore, he can make himself and his patients invulnerable for 10 seconds.

* Every class has a unique close-combat weapon. Even the secondary weapons differ from each other often times. Following is a list of classes with their primary, secondary and close-combat weapons:

* Scout: Shotgun, pistol, baseball bat.
* Soldier: Rocket launcher, shotgun, shovel.
* Pyro: Flamethrower, shotgun, fire axe.
* Demo Man: Sticky bomb slingshot, grenade thrower, broken bottle.
* Heavy Weapons Guy: Machine gun (mini gun), shotgun, fists.
* Engineer: Shotgun, pistol, wrench.
* Medic: Machine pistol, healing ray, bone saw.
* Sniper: Sniper rifle, machine pistol, club.
* Spy: Revolver, cigar case (PDA for switching your disguise), knife.

Maps & Gameplay

* Apart from 2Fort, there'll be a remake of Well.

* There will be completely new maps for the game mode "Territorial Control". It will be randomly decided which area of a map is supposed to be conquered and the team in possession of that area will assume the role of defenders.

* There will be trains rolling through the map Well, which should be avoided by players.

* Capture The Flag becomes Capture The Documents. Instead of capturing a flag, you'll have to capture a briefcase from the opponent's base.
So this brings me to the title of my topic...

NO STANDARD GRENADES... AND... AND... TELEPORTERS KEPT!!!!

Just had to vent some steam...

What do you guys think, will you still be playing TF2 you think?

It might be fun for a couple of hours or so but as for longevity I think not.

Kudos to you FF team, keep it real 8-)

Oh and here's the PC Action site: http://www.pcaction.de/?menu=0900

GambiT 03-26-2007 01:01 PM

although this has been discussed many many times...i will post a reply anyway....

i have NO intention of playing TF2..to god damn cartoony for me....

Everything 03-26-2007 01:04 PM

TF2 is decent, imo, but it's far from FF or even tfc
but like GambiT said, cartoons aren't my style either

mervaka 03-26-2007 01:11 PM

i'm open to try whatever.

GhOsT 03-26-2007 01:14 PM

I still cannot comprehend how people can just totally discount a game based on details from a translated magazine article.

~kev~ 03-26-2007 01:22 PM

lies

You forgot the long development time - 9 years. When TF2 does come out I am going to say "so what - the game should have been released 7 years ago." A company can tease its customers for only so long before they lose interest, and frankly, I have lost interest. The game play is not that big of a deal, its the constant teasing, and lies the community has been told over the past 9 years that has made me lose interest in TF2.

GhOsT 03-26-2007 01:31 PM

I've been waiting for TF2 since it was a mod to HL as well. I know about the long development time. I'm also aware of why it took so long and imo it's going to result in a better game because of it. Compared to what they were originally doing this is going to be a lot more like TF which is good for fortress fans.

I also find it kinda funny how people are reacting to losing frag grenades when brotherhood of arms was going to radically change everything and make it more like what battlefield2 is now.

Everything 03-26-2007 01:34 PM

Well, it was valves decision to delay it 9 something years
whining about it , isn't going to release it, if i was working for TF2, i would say something like "Eh, let em starve  , we'll release it when we want"

Fjorn 03-26-2007 01:36 PM

Its the same way most QWTF fans don't like TFC and vise versa

Its different, therefor not as good

And they will be in a weapons slot rather than "off-hand"?

Ick.

About the only feature of the Unreal games I dislike..

Quote:

* [The Medic] can make himself and his patients invulnerable for 10 seconds.
Unless the game is significantly slower than previous TF games this is ridiculous. 10 seconds is as long as you might spend inside the enemy base on an attack run in TFC. Obviously they can tweak the numbers but I'm not sure invulnerability (for any non-useless length of time) can be balanced at all in a high paced game.

My plan is to boycott TF2 - either not buy it, or not play it if it comes with episode 2. Valve should NOT be rewarded for taking 9 years to release a game / mod.

Defrag 03-26-2007 02:48 PM

What's the time involved got to with anything?

Here's my check list for a good game:
-game must be good.

If it ticks that box, that's good enough for me.

From the link which tu! posted:

Robin Walker:
They're offhand thrown, so you don't have to switch weapons to them, but
they do lower your main weapon. You can still hold down the grenade key
to prime & hold the grenade for some time before throwing it, but you're
unable to fire your primary weapon during that time.

fishBurger 03-26-2007 02:53 PM

Agreed.

I'll give it a shot... and hopefully it will be so amazing and unique it will split my play time 50-50 with FF.

also insurgency.
speaking of things ive been waiting for...

rannibunny 03-26-2007 03:00 PM

hrhrhrhr

At least I have something to be more pissed at than summer breaking out ^_^
"God damn you, sun! One day I'll stop your ugly smile once and for all..."

Interesting, but "offhand" and "can't fire your primary weapon" don't seem to go together.

Have you ever read the story of the wolf and the grapes? Its a point of giving up. I am tired of the lying, teasing and the empty promises. Its like a cheating / lying spouse, girl friend/boy friend. Thats it, I am tired of the lies and empty promises, its over - valve can take its TF2 and cram it.
