Gaming Mouse

I need a good gaming mouse.

I've got a Logitech G500. Its very good, and if you like heavy mice it has weights you can add.

The software is pretty good, you can have custom settings for every game or program you use and it automatically switches for you when you go into the game or what ever and then switches back when you exit it.

You can set the DPI on the fly from 200 to somewhere around 5700.

Its a wired mouse with 10 buttons.

It has the same design as the MX500, MX510, MX518

The Logitech G700 is suppose to be another good one. I haven't used it myself but I like the fact that it can be wired or unwired. It doesn't have weights but its got pretty much everything the G500 has as far as I know.

It has the same design as the MX500, MX510, MX518

Its got 12 or 13 buttons.

I've used the MX518 for a few years and it's never had any problems. I'll likely get another of the same model if this one ever breaks.

It really depends on your hand style and what you feel is comfortable. I always liked logitech stuff but recently have been getting into Razer (mainly for the Deadadder which fits my hand nicely) and Steelseries since they sponsor something I do.

I'm on my 3rd G5.. if you get a logitech mouse don't bother with one that has a fabric-y cable cause they break - a lot (and I've been pretty careful since the first one broke). Mouse is good otherwise.

I'm also looking for a new one though so this thread can help me out too!

Guess I'll add what I use into the mix, for the past few years I've been using a Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse, there's a few versions but I have the original, which looks like:

http://www.techgadgets.in/images/mic...nder-mouse.jpg

It's fairly nice looking mouse, the 3 buttons on the top control DPI, which you can set in the software it comes with, so I have them at... 2000, 1000, 400, so if I need precision I just switch to 400 DPI. Which is very slow, and I use 2000 normally.

Has an LCD screen to show you the DPI, and macro recording. A pull out tray to add weight to what you prefer, and all of the usual buttons for a gaming mouse. And the performance is excellent, oh and it comes with a little box with the weights in and also 3 sets of feet, with different textures for speed or precision etc..

Only downside is probably the size of it, it's a big mouse... I have big hands so I like it, but for average hands it's too big.

If I were to buy a Sidewinder now, I'd probably go for the Sidewinder X8. Which looks nicer and has all of the same features, but 4000 DPI. (But, from comparison pictures, the X8 actually looks bigger than mine, which is huge..)

http://nexus404.com/Blog/wp-content/...use-detail.jpg

Oh, and the square silver button on the top of both is a shortcut to your games folder, but I don't really use it :/

And the mice are opened by removing one of the feet and using a Torx screwdriver, quite easy to clean.

I'd rate Razer mice as the best though.

i would mostly care what sensor it uses if i was gonna get a new mouse, then its shape (i cant care less how many btns it has). most of them use crappy sensors and got lights on them so they can be selled. so far, logitech g9x and steelseries XAI has the best sensor that money can buy. and since g9x has this weirdest shape, i'd go with XAI as its a very simple shaped mouse just like `the legendary` WMO, only smaller. anyways, i'd say dig it at esreality articles like this one where there are a lot of comparisons made by quake players. and that seems to be finest information for a gamer in my opinion.

Yeah this is what I would say as well, it depends on how you play. I particularly like having at least one mouse button for each finger and the vast majority of mice have nothing for the pinky finger. I have the Steelseries Xai which gives me 7 usable buttons and has ones for each finger.

If you're a buttons freak, it's difficult to outdo the Razer Naga.

Just out of curiosity which version do you have?

lazer mice still zero out on me when i play quake

so i use a steelseries kinzu and like it a lot. its a little small and has no mouse4/mouse5 though.

Pixel 07-31-2011 09:56 AM

The kinzu's lack of side buttons is a bit disapointing.

So...

MX 518, G400, Deathadder, or Kinzu.

Razer products look really cheaply made. Still don't know which to decide upon.

NeonLight 07-31-2011 12:15 PM

They do feel a little flimsy, but I've had no problems with my deathadder thus far and it's been almost a year since I got it. The only thing I am always concerned about is if you travel the mouse buttons on it are hovering a good distance from the mouse so I am always scared they will break off. Otherwise it's really nice.

They might look cheaply made, but believe me, they are extremely comfortable. My deathadder feels like an extension to my hand. It also glides along my pad really nicely, as if it's on ice.

FreaK367 07-31-2011 01:43 PM

Hmmm, for ultimate comfort to match your hand, why not a Cyborg R.A.T 9?

http://coolquirks.com/wp-content/upl...cyborg_rat.jpg

Pretty much every part of it can move and tilt in every direction so you can adjust it perfectly to fit your hand shape.

5600 DPI LASER, the red button is a precision aim button, differend modes, weights etc... you get the idea, it's immense.

^ I don't want to spend $150 on a mouse (especially for crap I'll never use)

Fair point, but there's a R.A.T 3/5/7/9

Here is the R.A.T 7 for only $75.99 at Newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826102062

• Cyborg R.A.T. 9 Gaming Mouse
o Features: Wireless, Fully Adjustable, 5600dpi laser; Programmable,; Weight System; Powered by Rechargeable Batteries

• Cyborg R.A.T. 7 Gaming Mouse
o Features: Fully Adjustable; 5600dpi laser; Programmable; Weight System; USB powered

• Cyborg R.A.T. 5 Gaming Mouse
o Features: Adjustable Length; 4000dpi laser, Programmable; Weight System; USB powered

• Cyborg R.A.T. 3 Gaming Mouse
o Features: 3200dpi laser; USB powered

I would only consider getting the R.A.T 7 or R.A.T 9 due to being the two truely fully adjustable mice in the range.

EDIT: The R.A.T 7 and 9 are pretty much exactly the same, apart from the 7 is wired and 9 is wireless, but apart from that, same specs. But the 9 is much more expensive :/, I prefer wired mice.

What the heck are you doing, swinging on the cables or something? :) Maybe its catching on something. I've had mine since January and there are no problems with the cable.

I paid $50 bucks (plus taxes) from Amazon.ca (free shipping) for my G500, it was on sale. I've seen the G700 on sale for $80. I'm sure you could find it as cheap on amazon.com, newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, ncixus.com, ebay or any number of other sites.

WiFiDi 08-01-2011 07:57 AM

g5 (if you can find one.), or http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G500-Programmable-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B002J9GDXI, with a http://steelseries.com/products/surfaces. a bit expensive but it glides so smoothly on it.

the only thing i trust from steel series anymore is there mouse-pads there headsets are just cheap and crappy.

hope that helps also don't buy from the steelseires store go to amazon better for computer accessories but not parts:).

Pixel 08-01-2011 11:14 PM

Holy hell those are fucking giant mousepads.
