Banned from OT ... again
 

Well my sentence was up and no one was on in USA other than a couple on OT. So I join up for a while, dominating O on Destroy. Had a good time. Decided to go D against a team of soldiers and my sg couln't stand up to them. So I typed:

He had a perm ban removed when he told us he wasn't intentionally trying to get banned multiple times in a day. Since then his bans have followed the normal language ban rules which have been explained to him several times. His last ban was over a year ago and was one year. He lasted 11 minutes before being banned for another year.

My main issues is that FF and other games in which O-T hosts are all MATURE GAMES. While I understand that swearing at people it bad... an occasional "oh shit" shouldn't be a big deal. After all, you are playing a game in which you run around KILL and BLOWING people up. Sure kids shouldn't hear harsh language, but they also shouldn't be playing such violent video games...

That said, I have no problem with O-T, but some of the admins really need to relax. Kicking and banning people for a single slip-up (it's happened) is just wrong.

Video games are supposed to be an outlet for anger and aggression. I can understand kicking someone who is raging on their microphone or within the text chat being a complete asshole to everyone blatantly, but if someone happens to post a positive or neutral message that has swear words in it, I don't see why there's a goddamn problem. If the kid is old enough to discern the separation from reality of a video game, he's old enough to know that (I don't believe this but you probably do, tur hur) those are 'grown up' words that should not be used.

Considering most of FF's players are adults or young adults, I don't think an entire server should be pussified in to servicing a minority and one that really shouldn't be playing a mature video game to fucking begin with. Rather, the servers should say "Hey, this is a mature video game. People playing this game play to vent anger. Y'know, jump on the server after a bad day and poke some harsh fun at the others to soothe it off? If you can't handle that, then go back to Toon Town, you gimpy bastards."

But whatever. If you guys want to curse and shout and talk shit within reason (Blatant trolling or being an asshole without a purpose, e.g. defending your position is unacceptable) there's always Talos server. We're not the morality police, nor do we attempt to smother you and your free speech. Trying to create a family-friendly atmosphere within a game like FF is like trying to section off a family-friendly area in a strip club. Get real.

The occasional swearing on our servers isn't a problem, in fact players could actually "accidently" swear over 20 times per day and not be banned. The problem is people ignore the warnings, which are text, slay, and verbal. If you push the system and get that first ban, it's all downhill from there.

As for people who believe we've "ruined" FF, I have yet to meet one of them who didn't get themselves banned either by wanting to be the "cool kid" or just intentionally ignoring the warnings in our environment. We have plenty of people that may disagree with our rules, but they follow them, and still happen to have a good time. :)

Well you could fix the problem by running your own damn server since you seem to know all about it Bridget.

Sure, I could not go on OT or create my own server, but that doesn't change the fact that many new players go on to Old Timers, have a bad experience, and have their view of the community fucking ruined because .. Bad enough the game only has two real active servers, but one of them is full of people who get butthurt and ban people when someone says 'poop' or 'christ', then advertise their banlist on their server like it's a fucking achievement they've essentially ruined Fortress Forever.

I think the debate over servers is all a bit ridiculous, whoever owns it is in charge. Sure someone probably has a shit job and bossing people around on a server at night time is their favourite thing to do, let them do it and join a different server.

This "warning" process on O-T is all talk however as I have been kicked a few times for literally just taking down sg's repeatedly. Annoying? of course it is, but it's the purpose of the game :p ( the sg killing not the kicking )

after reading bridgets post I totally had to add that when I was on the O-T server and asked what "jfc" stood for I was told "oh it stands for jesus f christ" oh how I lol'd at the "f".

Jesus fucking christ, I'm well aware that it's their server and that they can do with it what they please, but they shouldn't be surprised when people call them on their bullshit and accuse them of ruining Fortress Forever when they cling to their little banlist like it's an achievement. They don't even seem serious anymore. It doesn't seem as if OT is trying to keep a family-friendly image. It's all about the e-peen. Let's make the rules so limited and vague, so we can just increase our ban list, and therefore e-peen.

It's like when AOL made the discussion to restrict the number '69' in the child and teen chat rooms back when I was a little nooblet and was kickin' the 56k connection back in '99 or so. It actually did the complete opposite of what was expected. The administrative decision was to ban the number because it refered to the sexual position, but the restricted only ended up with dozens of kids going to their parents asking what the hell was so wrong with '69'. Likewise, OT's nazi-esse regulation of FF does nothing to benefit it, and everything to harm it. It's counter-productive. (Meh bad example? Fuck it.)

That only works when people are understanding. I know that some people get kick or even banned after their first "oops." Most of the O-T admins are great... but it's the cut-throat ones that drive people crazy.

O-T has come a long way since when the servers used to be covered with porn sprays and naked lady avatars in the forums...

It's not very had to NOT to Curse, learn to be a bit more mature about it.

I have a slip of the tongue every once and a while, I have yet to get a permaban from OT. I've been banned ONCE, and that was for saying sexy three times in a row, while the range of ban-able words is semi-retarded, it is still fun to play on there/ -
