Steam's Greenlight (new tool for developers)

http://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/

Looks like a chance for FF to get on Steam after all, it launches in August.

heard about this looked at this don't get your hopes up. it is for indie games and until ff becomes and indie game it won't help. i imagine they will restrict it so mods can't get in as that won't net them any cash they will lose moeny instead. :(

What WiFiDi said, alas. :(

whats the diff between an indie game and a mod? one costs money and the other does not?

actually 1 bigger more important difference, valve can make money off of an indie. (by either selling the source engine or selling there services such as steamworks, steam workshop, etc...) where as a mod valve can't make any money. :( this is the real reason why they no longer support mods they feel it doesn't profit them.

In other words, yes Moto.

Surely there's some way for valve ot make money off this. What if you signed away all promises of suing and let them sell it on the steam store for a small price? Just having it on the store would open up tons of potential payers.

Look at this entry on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modding#Game_software

There are no official laws on mods as far as I know. CS was acquired though, why not let Valve acquire FF?

If you "interfered with their business model" then offer them a better business model. Allow them to make money here somehow. I mean, you're going to make 0 dollars off this anyways, right devs?

If it got mentioned in a TF2 blog post just once, it could get purchased, since the market for games like FF is in TF2.

We already have a page on the steam store. I don't think going from being free, to charging money would be very helpful. Although weird shit can work like that. But it doesn't really make sense to me with tf2 being free, for us to charge money.

But yeah, if it got mentioned in a blog post we'd probly see a good turn out.

I think Valve already has a fortress game in development; they don't need another one, made by amateurs, several years ago.

It's a shame how the "amateurs" made a game that has far superior gameplay.

;)

In any case, I daresay I agree. :(

If FF was sold, I and alot of players would probably not play it anymore.

The game is amazing, but to me it's not worth money. If I had a choice between purchasing TFC and FF, I would buy TFC.

$15-ish or less and it would be an instant buy from me once the new patch, and with it some fixes, releases.

Yeah, this could potentially lose 2/3 of its player base.

aleXtric 07-16-2012 04:36 PM

id retire if this game was 99cents

Anshinritsumai 08-30-2012 09:33 PM

Anyone remember that Source mod NEOTOKYO°? It's on Greenlight.

One thing I don't see people discussing, is the possibility of adding a game (in this case, a mod) to Greenlight and having it flagged as Free To Play.

Interdasting. A source mod on greenlight. Worth a shot I guess. Get to it FF.
