TF2 migrant; looking for something new

Hello, everyone.

As the title says, I've had quite a few hours on TF2 and I can say I've enjoyed it for the most part. But I want something FASTER, and since my copy of UT2003 recently stopped working, I've been looking for other things.

I heard about FF from some of the in-game chatterboxes on the LotusClan servers in TF2 and figured "Well, why not?"

Here's the thing: I've never touched TFC (just HL and O4 deathmatch).

From what I've heard, I'd probably enjoy this, but I wanna learn the ropes once I get the chance. Any tips for a complete-but-aspiring newb to TFC?

http://www.fortress-forever.com/wiki...7s_Guide_to_FF

Wiki Article written specifically for you. Explains FF differences in terms of TF2.

Main points - Each class has grenades, which rule.
Bunnyhopping keeps things fast, jump queing helps.
Movement skills are essential to the game, especially for offensive classes.

Read through the wiki to understand the different grenades and movement skills. Everything else should be easy to pick up just by playing.

If you want someone to run you through the basics, add me to your Steam friends:

ihmhi

We can set up a few hours of playtime on the [AE] private server and I'll run you through some of the basic skills and strategy. Or, if you want to just jump in and play, I'll be glad to answer any questions you have.

I hope you enjoy your stay.. if you decide that this game isn't for you then we'd very much appreciate your feedback.. although I hope you will stick around :)

welcome

bear in mind some of the wiki documentation for the movement skills was wrong last time i looked, and not everything is covered. it's probably fine to get the basics from, but if you got any questions just ask. hope you enjoy it :)

Welcome to FF!

The ropes are simple. Hop into the game, pick a class and start playing. Ask questions in game and there'll usually be people there that'll answer em. If you're worried about playing the game wrong, or pissing people off because of your inexperience, just follow one rule. Be aware if you're holding the flag (by noting the flag icon on your HUD display), and if you don't know what to do with it or where to go tell someone quickly that you have the flag and you don't know where to go. Someone might show you if they're nearby, or others will ask you to toss the flag (default button is "C" I think) then you can follow them.

The only thing that really pisses people off in pubs is thinking they have a "flag holder" if you're just walking around with the flag and not explaining you're lost/new.

Other than that everything is pretty much fair game.

Yes, welcome to FF! Always glad to have new faces. Invite your friends! If you need any help at all, feel free to come by #ff.pickup and ask anyone there if you use IRC that is. If not, message me on here and I'll be glad to give advice and what not. Happy Fragging!
