Ah... fucked by my broken camera again.

Nice though Mono, now I see how far behind I am.

No, I don't, nor will I ever.

Nice ones iggy!

The penguins are my favorite design, but that Yoshi is an awesome piece in traditional style!

PartialSchism 07-24-2009 09:56 PM

Mono what are the faces on your feet? I like those.

Thank you sir, you have some nice work as well!

The penguins represent Rose and I, and the rose "we're" holding, came from the urn she is in.

Rob Smith did my first 2, Jim Craig did 3, 4, 5, and 8. Tory Destromp did 6 and 7.

Jim Craig is also scheduled to do my next one, on Aug 12.

is it just me or do tattoos almost always look really stupid? Theres been a few that have caught my eye, but for the most part, i just dont see them looking anywhere near good

MonoXideAtWork 07-25-2009 12:17 AM

bingo bango, what about tattoos do you "not see looking anywhere near good"?

I don't quite understand what you're trying to say. Are you commenting on the quality of artistry?

Partial,

This is a human face in a swamp, the facial features are made up of items from florida wetland. (LEFT FOOT)

http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p...7-24024617.jpg

This is my pirate foot! The face is an interpretation of classic pirate Davy Jones lore, along with ghost ships, seaweed, and TREASURE!!!! Arrrg! (RIGHT FOOT)

uBeR 07-25-2009 12:21 AM

The art usually looks decent, but it doesn't look good on skin.

-=bingo-bango=- 07-25-2009 12:24 AM

Perhaps its the material. Skin just doesnt really seem like the right place for art. Not because its on a body, but because it just seems like a terrible choice of material to portray art. Perhaps its the quality of the artist. Most that i see either tend to achieve too much detail or realize that detail is so hard that they make it simple and it ends up looking shoddy in my opinion. Perhaps its the object of choice. I guess i just havent really seen anything that i would want to permanently put on my body just yet.

I guess i just see all of these things together as the reason for them not being so appealing to me

PartialSchism 07-25-2009 12:28 AM

That's pretty awesome... Foot hurt much? I have one of my 2 across my spine, and I hardly felt it. I am boney as fuck, and that was my first.

MonoXideAtWork 07-25-2009 12:48 AM

Well, you do have to realize that human skin is like blotter paper. So in order to get defined lines, you need to have a large piece. The best I can describe it as is "Painting watercolors on blotter paper with cotton swab. Because the human skin is so fragile, one has to be careful when applying it, as an application too shallow will lose pigment in the healing process, and too deep will cause scarring which is painful and creates translucent scar tissue that diffuses light, making the tattoo appear blurry or "blown out"

Even on a large backpiece like this one, close up, individual lines won't be much to look at.

I totally understand where you're coming from on the "I can't see myself getting anything," but even if you don't have any tattoos, seeing what others have and what drives them to get these words/images on their body forever is interesting in my opinion.
Even if it isn't apparent, every tattoo tells a story.

Your next to last point is why I waited so long to get my first. My tattoos have meaning to me.... it's not JUST a "get a tattoo just to get a tattoo" kinda tattoo. I'm not pointing at anyone on here, but I have known people who will get literally ANYTHING tattood on, just to say they had it.

I will admit that I have an addiction to them, and I've invested a lot of money into them. In my case, they are many things; A way to start a conversation(lots of people have walked up to me and asked about one of them), a reminder of some things I have been through, a right of passage(permanently changing a part of my body), Because I sometimes like attention, Because I like them(I look at them once in a while, and pick out something... some minor detail that makes me think....), there's a lot to it.

That's technically my 2nd, but my first was a joint with the word "bud" above it, and an X on top of that. I got it when I was like 14 from a homemade tat gun b/c I was fucked up and a friend convinced me. Then I got this over it as a reminder of the time I've spent for the mistakes I've made in life. My plan is; once I'm finally finished with all of this legal crap, I'm gonna take the smoke that goes up top, and have it wrap up and around onto my chest and turn into a phoenix (the tail will come outta the smoke). That's also right after I got it, so it looks different now.

I'm also planning on getting the zelda triforce somewhere on my body to represent my love for video games.

I also feel that tat's should be very personal and shouldn't just be b/c, but after getting this one, I am totally addicted.

That is one BADASS concept you've got there!! I really like it! Make sure you post pics when you get each step finished!

I don't yet, but I'm thinking about a few. Eagle Globe and Anchor over the chest, probably, but maybe something on my upper arm.

Favorite tattoo I've ever seen is a buddy of mine who was a designated marksman, got a 9 inch blacked out silhouette of a DMR across his outer forearm, with text underneath reading "I am my brother's keeper."

PartialSchism 07-25-2009 04:35 PM

Get a different moto tatt, unless its gonna be a badass EGA. Or something with the EGA.

Reminds me of a guy we had in our platoon.....Had USMC across the left side of his chest lmao. Whenever he didnt have a shirt on the DI's made him walk around with a hand over it. So usually he only had 1 hand to do stuff @ hygiene time.

fishBurger 07-25-2009 04:53 PM

Haha, of course you'd get shit for getting a tattoo if you're not a Marine yet.

And I'm probably going to wait until I get some time in the fleet before I get a tattoo.
I'm trying to not be another motarded boot lieutenant. Probably not going to change much, but I'm trying.

This one didn't make it into the slideshow, it's the latest. 3 sessions in, 2 left
