Droid?

After wanting the BlackBerry Storm to be a good phone and fighting with it since it's release...and hving 3 failed phones in the last 13 months I'm giving up. My Droid should arrive today. Anyone else have this phone or its Tmobile sibling? Any must have custom apps?

Skanky Butterpuss 01-22-2010 07:31 PM

this is relevant to my interests as well. im thinking of taking the plunge into the smartphone world and this is the one ive been looking at so far. a friend of mine has it and loves it (he has previously owned several blackberries. says he definitely prefers the droid). so yeah, i want second innocs queries here.

While I don't have one of these and even though you've likely researched it, the droid forums have some takes on the must have apps:

Edit: Looks like you may be the first on these forums, Innoc, to get one of these (same reason I suspect my SSD request post has gone unacknowledged).

Please post your results/feelings after a few weeks of usage to let us know what you think. My contract is up in April, and I'm debating about switching from ATT to Verizon.... and a droid

Friend of mine got the Droid. No complaints, only a little bit of frothing.

i'm upgrading soon as im still on a nokia n95. Having resisted Steve Jobs and anything begining with i, i'm torn between HTC HD2 - windows

or a droid, nexus one or a xperia x10

i'm looking at the motorola milestone. it's like the droid, but tastier!

Innoc 01-26-2010 12:51 AM

After a weekend of working with the Droid I think Motorola has a true hit here. There's a number of features that have a huge wow factor. Most of us are familiar with google searching from a phone keyboard whether virtual or real. The Droid has a voice input option that's MUCH faster than typing and pretty damned accurate. The Storm I had was always slow at searching and displaying results. I assumed it was the network. I don't think that is the case anymore. The Droid is VERY fast a pulling down and displaying pages. Assuming the network didn't change over the weekend...the Storm sucks...(all 3 of them I had over 13 months).

It also handles multiple email accounts with no trouble. Initial email account information is going to tie to a Gmail account. This makes populating your contacts on the phone pretty easy. Also, the ability to pull down new apps through the Droid Story is a piece of cake.

So....48 hours under my belt...I'll post more as I get more comfortable with the phone. So far...I like this phone!

Two things you should know off that bat. First: disable all location services and only turn them on when you need them.....then turn them off again. Be mindful of any app that can turn on location services and be sure to manually turn location services off once you're done. GPS/Location services eats battery like nothing I've ever seen.

Second: manually set your screen brightness to 50% or less if you can and do not let the phone decide brightness for itself.

If you see battery dropping like mad drill down through the battery utility and it will show you exactly what's eating your battery.

good lookin out, innoc. i just ordered it online last night, hopefully should get it in the next couple days.

already been looking at the modding capabilities haha. anyone tried rooting it to get multitouch? Gizmodo had an article about it, and it looks pretty interesting. not sure if i want to start fucking around with it right out of the box though..

i LOVE this phone. very impressed with it so far in the 3 days ive had it. probably going to root it tonight and install bugless beast and OC it a bit just for poops and laughs :)

bb is sweet, and im OCed to 1ghz atm. i might turn it down if i notice temperature or battery life issues, but so far it seems to be doin alright. speaking of batery life, good looking out on that tip about turning off gps and stuff. power level widget makes that quick and easy, good stuff :)

This is going to be my first purchase when I get back from South America, if there isn't something better out by then.

DOOOO EEEEET

I'm waiting on the Nexus One to come to Verizon before making a decision. Wonder if it will have better hardware capabilities. I can upgrade (for cheaper) in August.

Innoc 02-19-2010 07:10 PM

One complaint I have is how the Droids will frequently download "new" emails from my personal acct that I've already read and deleted. It seems to be a bit random about which old messages it re-downloads. Apparently I am not the only person experiencing this annoying condition.

Oh....one other thing would be the cut and paste feature....it needs work. Hopefully the 2.5 OS will address these fairly minor complaints!

Skanky Butterpuss 02-24-2010 09:16 PM

i havent had that problem with the emails, but now since i have this phone i dont ever check email on my computer anymore so maybe thats why haha.

i just got this app, and so far its pretty fucking stellar. i can stream all my music from my pc to my phone over wifi or 3g. a little bit of stutter, but definitely a badass app once you get it configured.
