What happened to the new journal by jon? I saw it, now it's gone. I just saw it posted on planethalflife as well so what gives (aside from buying a 8600, those things blow)?

trepid_jon 04-25-2007 08:49 PM

I edited it, which makes it go through the authorization process.

SaberWolf 04-25-2007 09:37 PM

I was about to ask the same thing, thanks for the reply jon.

WRYYY!!!!

SilentButDeadly 04-25-2007 11:31 PM

Cool. I'm glad i wasn't the only one that noticed that.

trepid_jon 04-26-2007 12:20 AM

I pretty much only edited to explain how I'm exchanging the CPU and video card for better shit.

E6600 instead of E6400, since the E6600 recently became a whole lot cheaper... like...$100 less than when I ordered my E6400 just a couple weeks ago.

And I'm getting an 8800 GTS instead to replace my 8600 GTS, since my 8600 GTS was only $50 less than the most popular (and cheapest) 8800 GTS. And what's $50? Gone, that's what. It's actually only a $30 difference after a rebate. So yeah...why not?

I even got the restocking fees taken away, because I apparently hit her spot just right.

Dospac 04-26-2007 07:10 AM

Much better choices there, jon. Nice :)

Don 04-26-2007 12:13 PM

Hey trepid jon, could show an updated similar picture to 'new_hotness-01' so we can compare the difference with your even better stuff please?:)

Ya women are just like frigging carpet..........Lay them right the first time then you can walk all over them the rest of your life.

PS sweet deal.

GhOsT 04-26-2007 12:20 PM

I would imagine you wouldn't be able to tell the difference with a still picture.

Jon let me know what you think of that E6600...thats what im looking at getting for the comp i'm building...

trepid_jon 04-26-2007 04:05 PM

Yeah, I imagine the quality of the picture won't change much, but I better get more than 30 fps at those settings...or someone's gonna die.

It's a great chip and can be ocd from 2.4 to 3.2 with ease

Dospac 04-26-2007 05:43 PM

The 8800 is way faster, you should be happy with it. 16xaa at 1600x1200 is gonna push even the fastest cards though.. :)

Sureshot 04-27-2007 04:31 PM

Yeah, I'd be interested to hear some feedback. I just ordered the following myself:

ABIT AB9 Pro (Intel P965 Express) - ATX
Crucial Ballistix 1 Gb (Kit 2x 512 Mb) DDR2-SDRAM PC6400 4-4-4-12 - BL2KIT6464AL804
MSI NX8800GTS-T2D320D-HD-OC - 320 Mb TV-Out/Dual DVI - PCI Express (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS)
Scythe Infinity (for Socket 478/754/775/939/940/AM2)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Dual Core ! Socket 775 FSB1066 cache L2 4 Mb 0.065 micron
Arctic Silver 5 - Thermal compound (3.5 grams)

I'd also hope for more than 30fps :) The recent price drop on the E6600s is a nice bonus.

PHISH 04-27-2007 04:49 PM

e6600 is definitely a good buy

I've had it paired w/ the older 7600 gts for a while and its still been a beast. Didn't even overclock or anything but its very good for that.

Stephen 04-27-2007 06:19 PM

Sureshot - get more RAM. Besides that it all looks great.

Sureshot 04-27-2007 07:07 PM

It was a tossup between 2gb of PC5300 and 1gb of PC6400, although if having only 1 begins to annoy me, I can just grab another. Oh and I was more thinking about feedback on the game performance from those with similar rigs & playing FF right now, but thanks anyway :)

Edit: Sod it, stuck another gig on now, might as well.
