Lay-offs update

Not to curse you guys or anything. But I would like to know how many people here were laid off, or are about to be laid off.

I work in the support industry. As long as there are products that fuck up, I have a job.

It seems unlikely for me for this year but if it happens I'll likely feed my own business that I started last year and continue to maintain.

I quit my job long before I could get laid off. I'm one step ahead of the game.

Crazycarl 01-23-2009 01:45 PM

I just got hired a few weeks ago.

Hooray for company shutdowns...

My dad was recently relocated by his company. He was given the choice of moving to a different section of the company or losing his job altogether, he obviously chose to relocated. By him moving his salary he saved around 2.5 jobs in the division he was in.

if my store was to be closed, i'd hear about it roughly the day after the customers do...

Hica 01-23-2009 04:31 PM

The company I work for his shutting a plant down in Washington, and has made lay-offs just about everywhere else. My division saw 75 people (out of roughly 500 or so) lose their jobs.

I work at Circuit City.......yeah about that...

Iggy 01-23-2009 05:28 PM

I'm in a pretty secure place right now. It would take a lot for me to be let go.

Anshinritsumai 01-23-2009 06:54 PM

Haven't had a full-time or even part-time job, only seasonal... no one fucking hires in San Diego, not for the past 4 years... ask Vampiricus...

I was escorted to the door. That is how hostile my job was cut last November.

I know of one other person that just experienced a layoff. His job of 20+ years was just shipped overseas.

I'll be fine for some time. There's still hundreds of people needing Web Development work done, and I can always try to go freelance if I lose my current position.

Backstaber 01-24-2009 02:07 AM

Work at a theme park that is always understaffed, and my job is in high damand due to such low staff. So nope!

Credge 01-24-2009 02:32 AM

The place I live sucks for jobs. I haven't been able to find one since I moved here about two years ago. So...

Luckily I have other ways of making money that don't require local jobs.

Iggy 01-24-2009 04:20 AM

You holding?
