Aimbot - Need thoughts...
 

We had a player in the server tonight that someone asked me about to see if they were using aimbot. A long term player believes they are, and every time an admin comes into the server the individual would "all of a sudden become horrible" or leave.

I pulled the stats for the player in question and I'd like an opinion on these.

The guy played for 43 minutes and 55 seconds straight. He played sniper the entire time. He had a 14% headshot ratio. He racked up 170 kills in those 44 minutes. That's roughly 1 kill every 15 seconds.

Now, in thinking about that, that includes respawn times, getting back into position, etc. 1 person every 15 seconds for 44 minutes straight, no breaks.

Anyways, it seems that the OT server always has the best Snipers of all the Mod, really. Last night we had a 3 Sniper Defense on Aadvark on a 8 player team, and the enemy had real trouble to grab our flag, so I'm going for the "very good Sniper" option.

I'm not giving out the player name unless there's a significant concensus that it's aimbot. I'm not going to drag a player's name through the mud unless we're sure. I know we have a lot of guys that love sniper and that's all they play. I wasn't in the server at the time this guy was, so I have no frame of reference. All I can say is some of our long term players have complained and whenever an admin goes into spec this guy "goes afk" or leaves the server. *shrug*

The thing is he has a couple of minutes where he gets a lot of kills. Look at 8:19pm. He got 8 kills in that minute, only 2 of which were headshots. 4 of those kills were in the span of 18 seconds.

We don't ban unless the player is a real issue to the environment and there is proof behind it.

Ops, didn't realize that. I was asking to know if I did play with him, but I guess I would have known, since everyone complains about him.
Having multiple kills in a short time is a matter of luck plus skill. If you add the insane Sniper Rifle shoting speed to a few wounded players, you can get to the point that (with Quake sounds in the server) you receive the "Double Kill" "award". Close range headshots are also posible even when you don't intend it. However...
...either he has something to hide, or you are very, very unlucky. Maybe you could tell the regulars to spec/record a demo of him playing - maybe this way he won't leave?

No way you can conclude aimbot unless there is a demo.

That seems like a high number for a sniper, to me anyway. Either the kid plays WAY too much or it's an aimbot. Sadly, you'll never know until you catch him. Use a different name and go in the server to try to catch him red handed, other than that it's your word vs his.. and of course he will deny it even if he is using one.

Yeah, I agree with compact. It's the OT server, you guys are going to ban him eventually anyway. Might as well save him some time, hacks or not.

I appreciate your thoughts on this matter, but we are not going to follow your advice. We do not ban people for being good players, only for people who are a continued problem in our environment that can not follow the rules. However, your message has been received. If anyone else wishes to voice their opinion about the [o-t] environment in general please feel free to PM me. This thread isn't about the [o-t].

A person PMed me and asked me what map it was, it was ff_aardvark. They also asked me to add in this players deaths. Not only was he able to rack up these kills but he also died 35 times in those 44 minutes.

We've asked the guys that said his lazer moved way to fast and accurate to make some demos the next time he's in the server. ScuzTools has a "On Connect Note" for this player now, so even if they change his name they'll know who to watch for.

I didn't even think about looking at his number of deaths... makes even more less likely from my point of view.

yes you actually do ban good players for no reason but as always ill take it as a compliment.

I'd like to take a look at that demo. There's also a chance that, if he is aimbotting, that we might see a wave of aimbots coming in.

About a week and a half ago I was playing against a sniper. It might have been on the OT, EO, NFO or AE server - those are the main servers I play on. As soon as I would expose myself, the snipers laser went straight to me and blam, I was dead. I thought it was strange that he rarely, if ever missed.

The other strange part, the laser would go straight to me, no curve, no flinch, no nothing. As soon as I was exposed to where I could get a shot, I could see the other snipers laser swing over to me. It was as if I was a magnet.

I need to look back at my videos to see if I recorded anything, but I dont think I did. If it happens again I will record some videos using fraps.

That's exactly what other people were saying last night, the lazer just jumped straight to people.
