Vice and Virtue

Some of the people working on FF also worked on VNV while we were at Controlled Chaos Media. Last night, Hunter put Vice and Virtue on Steam Greenlight:

We started it in 2009 and it's been kinda sitting on the shelf

We couldn't ever get big studios to get us to make it and we had a lot of other projects and obligations that just took our time and attention away from VNV. We had a working playable mod made in Source SDK, and once it's greenlit we're going to put it on Steam as an opt-in beta or something while we develop the full game.

Together with FF and other things from Trepid, Rich Pine, Hatchlight, and anyone in any of our networks...we're going to do some amazing stuff.

looks like a css mod

Yeah we used the CSS content/weapons to help us prototype it quicker back then.

I basically just took the CSS weapons assets, wrote my own code, added iron sights with right click, and we had "realistic" weapons to use, pretty much any CSS weapon because I also used the CSS weapon scripts. Didn't have the CSS code though.

So it is a mod in that prototype's case, but the full game is not a mod though.

Funny thing is the iron sights. I didn't change any of the weapon firing code, just added iron sights, and instantly people thought the firing was better. Just that perception of looking down the barrel was enough to make people think the firing was better.

I pray for the day we can move away from iron sights in video games. One day I'll be able to look at what I'm shooting and watch the action happen with out being penalized.
