Any Gun People Here?
So...we play an awful lot of FPS-type games. How many of you enjoy shooting IRL? Recently, some piles of shit gave me an incentive to buy some new pieces after they broke into my house and carried off my safe with a few of my firearms.
Insurance proceeds allowed me to pick up a couple of new Springfields among other things...I love this mfr! So, if you do shoot...what's your pleasure? |
I've been out shooting with a friend before, just a breach loaded 12 gauge I believe. Can't really remember because it's been so long. I'm sure one day when I have the cash I'll pick up a revolver to take to the range now and then.
My absolute dream gun has always been the Mateba Model 6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mateba_Autorevolver Imo there's a gun that's just dunked into a massive tank of sex appeal. They've gone out of production, and go for a hefty price no a days. I've wanted one since I was like 12. Hopefully one day I'll have the money, and still be able to actually find one. |
I have never been to a firing range. I would like to go one time, just to experience it.

In fact...two of the new pistols I bought aren't legal for California residents. Now...Nevada residents...that's a different story... |
I live in a very anti-gun state, but once I leave this hellhole I plan on buying a P226 as my first piece.

i'm a gun nerd and reload as well. Shoot a howa 1500 in 308, ruger sr9, glock 30 and a couple mosins

I recently picked up an XD(M) in .40 and an XD(S). Unbelievable pistols...
And as a plus....on the side of the cases that both came in was the following warning: XD(M) "Not Legal in California with High Capacity Magazine." XD(S) "Not Legal in California." Sigh...that fucking state... |
Ruger mini 14 with collapsable buttstock. And a 30 round clip strapped to a 40 round clip. .223s can get expensive in bulk but its worth it to be able to fire as fast as you can pul the trigger :) wouldn't recommend doing that at a gun range tho lol

I've shot a rifle before, but not anything else. Cept maybe for a paintball gun.
I don't think I'd ever own a gun unless war broke out in the US, but I'd definitely love to learn the basics of shooting. |

I've been shooting for almost 4 decades and even I have to spend more time with certain weapons to be comfortable. My XD(S) is a perfect example. As this will become my carry piece I need to really get more comfortable with it...plus it's my first .45 and it's a bit of a handful... |
Ok, so if I'm wanting to go out and start finding a weapon that suits me, then I should go to a range and see if they rent out different guns? How much does it cost to rent a weapon where you are?

I think the better way is to figure out who you know that owns, is knowledgeable, safe and is happy to take you along. Failing that a class wouldn't hurt. If you have any inclination you really need to understand safe handling, storage, operation and cleaning. Most states aren't as idiotic as California so there's a good chance you have resources close to you. I recently went through the process of helping someone learn all of this....my wife. As part of the process I learned something that never occurred to me and something I completely took for granted....the noise. Walking onto a live indoor range to shoot pistols next to guys firing off semi and fully automatic weapons was no big deal for me. I like it. It was a shock to the system for my wife. It never occurred to me how unnerving the sound can be for someone who's never been around it. Now picture having to perform and shoot when that's going on around you....that's where practice and familiarity comes in. |
Guns. Damn 'merica, you scary!
edit: What stops someone with a clean history legally purchasing a gun and later down the line have some sort of breakdown and kill somebody? |
