i wouldnt call it a rocket anymore.. its a cannon after all! its a projectile now!

o_player 01-17-2007 11:39 AM

Why is the IC rocket/projectile affected by gravity? What are the benefits of such a feature?

o_gunslinger 01-17-2007 11:45 AM

What are not the benefits? It differentiates it from the soldier's main weapon and stops really annoying and pointless spam in midmap. + a 100 other things, I guess; apply the big squidgy thing between your ears to it.

mervaka 01-17-2007 11:48 AM

well i'm guilty to spamming the IC across the 2fort balconies in TFC. it fucks snipers up a treat, to the point where they change to medic and try to infect me!

its for the best, and allows some cool shots over stuff!

- It makes it more interesting to play
- Although in a way its a nerf, they can counteract it by buffing it another way, such as more damage. This means it becomes more useful but not just another RPG clone.

At a guess...

mervaka 01-17-2007 12:01 PM

its far more useful as a ballistic projectile! combined with the splash radius, its great at damaging stuff over walls. seriously, when you try it you'll love it!

o_qui 01-17-2007 12:10 PM

That sounds cool, one can imagine standing just below the sniper deck on 2fort and popping some mortars on the snipers heads, while they cant get at an angle to hit you.

Could also be good for a number of situations, taking out SG's on a platform for instance.

mervaka 01-17-2007 12:35 PM

its incredibly useful for firing at platforms overhead!

o_player 01-17-2007 12:57 PM

Sounds interesting. Watching the video from the latest media update, it doesn't look severely affected (like the pipe launcher is) so maybe it is beneficial overall and includes a new skillset to learn for the pyro. All good : )

o_stephen 01-17-2007 02:18 PM

i say, a video clip of it in action would be most beneficial ;)

Circuitous 01-17-2007 08:11 PM

So if you fire it directly upwards it comes down relatively soon? Like... it won't hit the map's ceiling?

o_infinitum 01-17-2007 08:24 PM

Is the soldier's RPG affected by gravity?

o_sta_sirtiger 01-17-2007 08:38 PM

If so ^, that would totally suck.

Nah, don't think so. they changed the pyro rockets gravity to differenciate them from the soldier rockets I think.

It will if its low, but on most maps I've messed with it goes up and right back down on your head.

Not at all.

Lost, thanks for letting us know that FF is saved! (no rocket gravity shit!)

Surely the skybox has no ceiling? It used to be that rockets woul explode on the skybox before they changed it to not clip so you could fire stuff into space, as it currently is in TFC. So the maps sky height shouldnt affect rockets being fired directly upwards, they should come back down eventually without ever hitting a ceiling.

o_nezumi 01-18-2007 06:30 AM

Nope, there's still a ceiling in TFC.

It sounds like the grenade thingy on the SMG ala HL1 and 2. (which hits the ceiling too, btw)

Lost 01-18-2007 01:07 PM

It can still hit the ceiling, like on dev_2fort because its just a copy of the original but on all of the other maps I've played so far, the only boundaries I've hit are the map edges.

o_ihmhi 01-18-2007 02:14 PM

I think that is BS for the IC cannon. It is supposed to be a counter to snipers. How are you gonna counter snipers with your IC when your projectiles are affected by gravity and theirs are not? Bullshit. ):
