Wii since Christmas!
Dear god Zelda is good. My housemate does like 10 hour sessions on it at a time, from 1am through the night.

I played it a fair bit over my friend's house. I don't really like Call of Duty that much, but I still managed to get him through most of the game :)
The Sports game is fun, if rather shallow. I'll probably pick one up when 1) there are actually any consoles to buy at my local stores and 2) there is a game I really want to play besides Zelda.

I am getting a Wii the second I see one for sale anywhere*.
I already have Zelda, so I'm good to go when that happens

I've got one. And Zelda is one of the best games of all time, if not the best. Wii Sports is pretty fun too, but I wish they would fully flesh out some of the games, or at least give them a couple more minigames.
Had one since christmas but i only got wii sports and red steel for it, going to pick up zelda whenever i can.
Red steel is so poor, i mean its amazing how much crap ubisoft threw at us around the wii release. That GT Pro series game seems to be the worst of the bunch. While i think its cool that nintendo focused more on reinventing the way we play consoles than on next gen graphics i am starting to feel that they should have perhaps focused a little more on graphics aswell. All games ive seen and tried for the wii have been somewhat ugly and surely it cant all be the devs faults. Ive yet to actually try zelda so im sure thats going to be alot better but as it is now most games look to be in the generation between n64/ps and ps2/gamecube D: strikes me as a bit odd.
Well im sure there will be more quality (both gameplay and visuals) games out soon for the Wii.
Look at this stuff http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/article/731/731777/gt-pro-series-20060908022745688.jpg

Zelda's graphics are amazing, considering its a GameCube port. A dedicated Wii Zelda will blow my mind.

I've had one since Christmas. Haven't played much since my sister is always playing Zelda on it.

I will have one eventually but I am not in a hurry...which is a good thing since you can't seem to find them anywhere. I'm actually more interested in a DS Lite. Those are the only ones of the next gen systems that interest me. I wouldn't buy a PS3 unless there are major changes to the platform....I mean...if I want an expensive paperweight I'll just buy a 2 8800's...

i agree, red steel is so fucking shoddy. the controls are just pathetic, and whats the deal with having to fight with a katana every so often?
Cuz they can make you?

I've had one since Christmas, really enjoy it, own Zelda and Rayman. I've "beat" Zelda already, not that I've run out of things to do though, but that game was loads of fun. I don't really care that much about the graphics, I mean it looked great and I could differentiate between things and it was bright enough, so I was happy. Looked better than that last N64 one that I played.
Rayman's single player was fairly quick to get through, but I love shooting rabbits with plungers and shit, and having some friends over and creating a Mario Party style decathalon of the mini games has been loads of fun and has lead to some controllers flying. Also, Rabbits can dance baby, but white guys still cannot.
Wii Sports is pretty basic, but can still be a great time. I wish it was just on the console though instead of on a separate disc, that way I could just switch to it any time I felt like. I've bowled over 100 games so far, because I found that you can do one single player pretty much perfectly in the time of a standard commercial break. Favorite show goes to break, hit the tv/video button, bowl 10 frames, come back right in time to see the show start up. What's not to love? Also, 4-player tennis is loads of fun, provided you have adequate space to do it (although it's fun trying in close quarters as well).
Also, I downloaded Mario '64 and F-Zero from their download service and have had a good time revisiting some old favorites that I sold off long ago.
Overall, I highly recommend the system, and hope more companies learn to better utilize the controllers. Finding games in stores isn't a problem here in the states, but the controllers/consoles are tough to come by retail. I'm definitely looking forward to more of the Mario titles to get released, like Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged, and at some point Mario Kart. And yes, Smash Bros. will probably result in the replacement of every controller I currently own, as colleged aged guys + competitive fighting game play + alcohol = destruction. Also, buy a 50 pack of AA batteries to hold you over until a decent rechargable controller's released.

I am a proud owner of a wii I have Zelda and Tony Hawks down hill jam.

Yeah, I thought the battery life in the controllers was a bit rubbish.
Then realised that they were getting 40+ hours of play every 3 days or so, with sound and rumble.

In terms of the battery life of the controller, this thing looks like it will provide a pretty decent solution:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joytech-Power-Station-Wii/dp/B000L3DFS0/sr=8-1/qid=1168633600/ref=pd_ka_1/203-1772676-2926334?ie=UTF8&s=videogames
I haven't got a wii yet, but I'll probably pick one up in a few months. I tried to get one around Christmas time, missed them once on Amazon by less than a minute, but I'm fed up of chasing them now so I'll wait until there are a few better games available. At the moment I like the looks of WiiSports, Rayman and of course Zelda, but the rest looks pretty average; it's a shame that the fps games haven't been as good as they could be.

Yeah, I was pissed when I saw my controller die for the first time, then I saw I had logged 20+ hours into Zelda and who knows how many more on Wii sports. They don't have terrible life, you just tend to forget how much you actually use the things.

It was funny though; I was in Best Buy the other day buying a PS2 game, and I saw a bunch of PS3s on display but no Wiis. I was curious, so I talked to a worker dude, and he said there were 40 more PS3s in the back, but that they hadn't gotten any Wiis for almost a month. That does seem a bit silly when you think about it: the Wii is basically just using a revison on the Gcubes processors, yet Nintendo can't meet demand?
I guess I'll lump that in the same category of "crazy Nintendo decision-making" as not stocking component cables in retail stores (or anywhere, for a while)

Nintendo owns the current market , so why bother being a crazy bitch , they'll make even more money when Smash Bros gets out.

Sad to hear that Red Steel disappointed. I was hoping it would be the next revolutionary console fps, kind of like Goldeneye was. Oh well.
I have Twilight Princess for the Gamecube and love it.
I'll probably get a Wii eventually. Rather wait a bit until more games are out, and first gen games have dropped in price or are available cheap used. Really more interested in gameplay that graphics, and some of the upcoming Wii games like the new Smash Bros look pretty impressive anyway.
haha unsold PS3's stacking up die Sony die die die

yeah wii lacks graphics majorily, but its sooo much FUN! The controler is soo much more accurate than that shitty PS3 i got. Which by the way, totaly overhyped, i want a 360.

I'm pretty pissed off at the Wii. I don't own one but I've played a few games and I can say the controller style is pretty cool... that's where the good things end. The Wii "Classic" controller for virtual console games feels and plays like a broken Arcade joystick at a pizza place. You press left... you go up... FUN! I haven't seen ANYTHING with graphics that looked better than RE4 yet, which is a damn shame. I normally don't care a lot about graphics, but they could at LEAST beat out their last system. Other than that, Zelda looks like it will be fun... once. There are tons and tons of secrets in the game, and all of them lead to 20-300 rupees... which do nothing. Even the "Pit of 100 trials" thing had jackshit for a payoff. I'VE made Zelda quests with better secrets than that!
Anyway... I still prefer Zelda 2. Fighting darknuts in Z2 is way cooler. (nobody better correct me about calling them darknuts or I will KILL you.)
HOLD ON! I haven't seen anything on ANY console with graphics better than RE4! I just remembered thinking about how much Gears of War was upsetting me because it didn't look better than a GC game.

Are you running it on an HDTV? 'Cuz GoW certainly isn't the pinnicle of graphics, but it does look pretty darn good.

ugh Zelda 2? that's the only Zelda I just can't make myself go back and play  Side-view Zelda was just weird.

I plan to buy it. Maybe when Super Smash Bro's comes out.

Zelda 2 was teh rock because the fighting was so fun and skillful. Moving on. GoW was on a 92 or so inch screen with component cables so it must have been 480i. EDTV anyway. I played RE4 on that same setup and it looked way better. Obviously part of that was the sheer artistic skill put into it, not just the graphical power... but that is sort of my point.

I just love Zelda, got it yesterday along with Call of Duty 3 , The only problem i have with CoD Atm , is sometimes when its too much happening , the Wii Mote has a hard time aiming and stuff to compensate the fps drop .
That really sucks , but on the other hand , i played 2 hours of cod , got down to drink some coke , and i realized my t-shirt were soaked in sweat :p \o/ Yay Wii.
Now im just waiting for Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption .

I've had one since release, have a fair bit of experience.
Pro's:
---Wii Sports
---Zelda
---Monkey Ball
---Raving Rabbids (not sure why this one gets so many iffy reviews, it fucking rocks - it's like mario party only challenging and has the best graphics on the console so far)
---Virtual Console - obviously most are downloadable, but n64 emulators usually suck and mario64 is flawless (if not better looking - it seems higher res to me). Also, turbographix downloads = win.
---Weather channel
---Wireless connection, no having to string a cable around my room or pay for a $100 wireless adapter (fuck you, microsoft) = win in my book.
Con's:
---Red Steel
---Far Cry: Vengeance
---Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
---Online system sucks huge balls, fun at first for the gimmick value (copying goatse to an SD card and sending it to friends, etc.) but I haven't used it in a month now, except to try out the internet channel (http://www.twincannon.com/pics/bii.jpg). It's also annoying that your identity is just a 4x4 digit string, like a credit card number. Hopefully this will improve will time or at least won't be total ass for online games like smash bros.
---Graphics. I mean, wtf? If you thought red steel was bad, you should see far cry. It looks WORSE than an n64 game.
---Control scheme is really bad for some games. Basically, zelda does it perfect - you use it sometimes, you don't use it most of the time. It's best when used subtley like this. If you're playing a game that demands you use it precisely all of the time, your arm will hurt and you'll just get aggrivated (red steel).
I'm one of the people also who got a Wii, and then recently got a chance to try out the 360 and am basically kicking myself in the ass for not getting a 360 sooner. I gave it a lot of shit, but man, it's an amazing console. Now, if only developers could make multiplayer that isn't shit (Gears multi sucked, just got Lost Planet today and it sucks too :/ the SP is great though, as expected).
The wii is collecting dust until probably Dragon Quest: Swords or something for me (or an "OMFG must have it" game on the VC), although the girlfriend is looking forward to Wii Play and Wario.

Mario Galaxy too.
I hope it's better than Mario Sunshine, I quit playing that just a little way in. Going through a *nice* level, just to have to get through an idiotic "floating in space" level to get a shine, is dumb as hell. Nevermind the lack of diversity in the levels themselves. Stupid island.
o_nezumi
01-14-2007, 05:19 PM
Diet Mario (aka mario sunshine) was a stupid game, no doubt, but...
...wtf, the platforms in space where you didn't have your water pack thing were the good part. If they made a whole game of that I'd be really happy.

I pretty much agree with everything you said.. D:

I like my Wii as well ^_^
But there are really nearly no good/Japanese (I'll use these words as equivalent while talking about consoles, thank you. I even got a little carried away when I bought it and wasted >100 bucks on Call of Duty and Red Steel (CoD is _worse_)) games out, yet.
But Super Monkey Ball Adventure, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Zelda and Wario Ware are great ^_^
Soon, there'll also be Trauma Center (go ATLUS, go ATLUS ^_^), Sonic, Battalion Wars 2 (Realtime Advance Wars), Mario Strikers, Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers and Metroid + every single one _will_ rock ^_^

Got a Wii here, Zelda is amazing, 1st game in a while that i've actually lost sleep over playing it. Other then that, not many games out right now. On a side note, I work at a walmart and we cant hardly give our PS3's away now, we've had about 12 of them in stock now for about 3 weeks. The Wii's on the other hand sell out the same day we get them in, hard to believe.

I'll probably get a Wii eventually. Rather wait a bit until more games are out, and first gen games have dropped in price or are available cheap used.
You can have a cheap used Call of Duty 3.
Or is there a minimum time you have to use a game to get it officially used? If yes then it's probably still new, sorry ^_^
