And after I get a DX 10 card, of course. (http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5036&Itemid=1)

Maybe I'm overlooking something....but there isn't that much using DX0 yet. I wonder if this is like the rumors that a replacement for Vista is releasing next year as well...

You're talking about Windows 7.

Vista is the "Windows ME" of this generation. Windows 7 is to Vista as XP SP2 is to Windows ME.

2000 will probably pwn all of them still, though.

actually from what I have been reading, windows 7 is just going to be based on vista's code....

Windows 7 is to Vista as XP SP2 is to Windows ME.
you HOPE! We already agree that Vista has more in common with ME than just about any other version of Windows...we could only be so lucky to have "7" be as good as XPSP2...

New DirectX used as a marketing dependency for newer windows releases is pathetic especially when you turn it up to 11 (for Windows 7 HMM THERES A REFERENCE IN HERE SOMEWHERE). Give me OpenGL any day.

You've already said that Windows 7 is basicly Vista SP2.
They just add more shit to an OS that is already required about 2 more gigs or ram thenit should.

but really, would it be possible for a graphics card to have some kind of onboard capabilities that would allow the graphics card to use dx 11? in other words, like why cant the cards upgrade? my card is dx9, what keeps it from using dx10? isnt the hardware all the same, with the exception that the newer cards have more hardware/power?

dx10 is not backwards compatible with 9. You need vista and a dx10 card for it to work, although, in reality dx10 adds a little shader prettyness that can be replicated in dx9 quite easily. dx11 IS backwards compatible with 10, so you can run it on vista as well as windows 7, and 11 actually matters somewhat more as they are making shit more parallel. In fact I read that the current AMD 4870s will benefit from 11 as their architecture will take advantage of 11s parallel shit (even though its still a 10 card).
