same thing happened to me... it was working fine this morning, then I try it right now and it just crashes to desktop.

Hmm, have you tried loading the Source SDK Base itself once? (it's under the "tools" tab in the steam browser)

Mine was working fine a couple of hours ago, then I come back and it just stops working. It freakin crashes right to my desktop. I tried reinstalling, and that didn't work.

element, When does it crash, and do you get any error?

As soon as I start the game it crashes. No errors or anything, just a black screen then back to my desktops 2 seconds later.

try removing the gamestartup mp3 files from /sound/ui

You can also try joining via the server browser, as this bypasses the mp3s being called.

My problem is exactly the same as elements, the gamestartup mp3 thing doesnt help it.

I've just reinstalled the latest ati vid drivers, problem persists.
all my other hl2 mods work fine.
Just not FF and the source sdk

using earlier drivers it lasts longer and the sol on cz2 is visible for a while before crashing out with a box saying "blah blah could not be read, "blah" referenced memory could not be 'read'".
Other hl2 mods are now doing this too
grr, can't understand it.

"memory can't be read" errors are usually down to physical memory (RAM sticks)
Time to run memtest on your PC. How's the internal temp of your PC. Maybe overheating.

As you say it's on other HL2 stuff now, it could be hardware related.

appears this is a common problem with no real fix.
maybe its destined I not actually play Hl2 or mods anymore, even though they worked fine yesterday. I could do something more useful with my time perhaps :D

yes- it sounds like the installer may have skipped some files upon installation. There is a post above about this issue; delete the current FF folder, and delete clientregistry.blob. Update source SDK and run the installer again, pay attention to if it says it "skipped" any files. The lack of error model is odd though.

In Steam main GUI. Click File - Settings - In-game tab. Then untick the "Use Community In-Game option"

Having the same crash to desktop problem...I was able to play FF a few hours ago, but can't now.

I've deleted the sounds, the clientreg file, and ran SDK Base...nothing... :(
Also tried disabling the steam community...I see the loading screen for a long time, then hl2.exe just crashes to the desktop.

Windows Vista 32bit
Tried running in XP mode w/ admin, nothing.

*FIXED*
EDIT - Well I just ran the installer again (without uninstalling) and saw some files blow back into the folders...looks to be working fine now. :)
