Nice work Goovyf. That is 1000% more readable than the stuff I threw together in the beta forums. You just saved a lot of people some work and confusion.

I know how to set binds in console but how do you set player specific binds? Edit the scripts, right? I'd love a tutorial.

I also noticed the console is hard bound to tilde. Can this be moved?

I also noticed the console is hard bound to tilde. Can this be moved?

If you want specific commands/binds for each class, simply create the following:

demoman.cfg
engineer.cfg
hunted.cfg
hwguy.cfg
medic.cfg
pyro.cfg
scout.cfg
sniper.cfg
soldier.cfg
spy.cfg

Some ppl just throw all binds and aliases into autoexec.cfg. That works fine for most players.

If you want to make your life more difficult, Flamewave had a rather funky system of configs and learned to do this from his website. You have to create 3 new files, binds.cfg, settings.cfg and classdefault.cfg

binds.cfg - contains all non-specific binds
settings.cfg - contains all settings
classdefault.cfg - contains all aliases (almost all)

Nothing is in autoexec.cfg.

Each class config only contains class specific binds aliases and nothing else. They start with:

unbindall
exec binds.cfg
exec classdefault.cfg

unbindall - wipes out all keys ** DO NOT USE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING**
binds.cfg - has all general use binds
classdefault.cfg - contains all non-specific aliases

The last line in binds.cfg executes the settings.cfg file.
exec settings.cfg
Naturally, settings.cfg it only contains settings.
Here are the ones I'm using for some aliasing examples: http://www.4estgimp.com/HL2/FF/cfg.rar

*spy.cfg is NOT finished yet* and could cause issues.

An issue was lodged in another thread where it was said that an option for this does not exist in the GUI. There might be a cvar for it, but you would have to ask a dev about that.

No. It's simply coded into the game.

hay, wonder if anyone could help with my script

in my old tfc script i used this
Bind "1" "scout"
Bind "2" "sniper"
Bind "3" "soldier"
Bind "4" "demoman"
Bind "5" "medic"
Bind "6" "hwguy"
Bind "7" "pyro"
Bind "8" "spy"
Bind "9" "engineer"
Bind "0" "changeteam"
to change between players so the next time you died you'd swap to that class.
so what are the new commands to select a class?

to fix ive tried
bind x "changeclass;wait;slot3"
but that doesnt work as when you are on the change class menu it doesnt recognize slot1-0 as a selection, only the physical press of 1-0

groovyf

Thanks for the heads-up. This should be a useful reference - but most of the commands are the same as they were in TFC, so it should jog my memory a little..

I have a question, actually. I'm at work so I cannot check this at the moment but:

Is there a console command to display your Health & Armour like in TFC? It was %h and %a - can I assume it's the same?

Also, is there a 'location' bind as well?

For instance, "I have the flag with %h|%a at <map location>" - I noticed in the bottom left it displays the map locations, e.g. flag room etc, so I would assume there is a command for this?

Annnnd, if you want to bind F11 say, to load a cfg is it "bind "f11" exec "configname.cfg" ?

Indeed there is: %l
%c also shows your class

Binding keys to exec cfgs is correct as your post.

Just as I thought. Thanks.

Another question (the last one, I promise!) -

If I were to seperate commands, do you still use the semi-colon ';' character?

For instance:

Bind "Z" "saveme"; say_team "I need A Medic!" - just accompanies text with the sound.

groovyf

No need for the extra quote marks :)

bind "x" "engyme; say_team in need of Engy for armour! Armour: %a"

heh, lets try this out:

alias spy1 "disguise enemy soldier; alias spyrotate spy2"
alias spy2 "disguise enemy Demoman; alias spyrotate spy3"
alias spy3 "disguise enemy Hwguy; alias spyrotate spy4"
alias spy4 "disguise enemy Medic; alias spyrotate spy5"
alias spy5 "disguise enemy Pyro; alias spyrotate spy6"
alias spy6 "disguise enemy Scout; alias spyrotate spy7"
alias spy7 "disguise enemy Sniper; alias spyrotate spy8"
alias spy8 "disguise enemy Spy; alias spyrotate spy1"

alias spyrotate spy1

Bind X spyrotate

Never disguise as the same class twice!

Obviously, taking out sniper is often a good idea. And you can mix it up as you see fit.

now here is my question. Is there a way to implement randomness into something?
an example in psudocode:

alias spy1 "disguise enemy soldier; alias spyrotate spyRandInt[1-8]"

thus making it all really random?

(if this is not doable I will probably just make a nice random generation for my self and make the list longer)

A few questions about configs :p

Whats the command to set model detail to low? As when I change it in options next time I load FF it defaults to High.
Also what gives better fps trilinear or blininear? And whats the command for that? As that also defaults to Antisomeat 2X

On a side note does anyone have or plan to make a high fps config for those of us with shit PCs?

Does the wait; command still work the same as it did in tfc? (So I can remove/edit/add old tfc binds)

Is dropitems still the command to throw the flag?

Is messagemode record and stop record still the commands for demo recording?

And finally not a config question but which ATI drivers would anyone recommended for a Radeon 9700Pro to get the best performance for FF???

Thanks! :)

Just now saw that it released, hate when i miss the exact momment when something releases.

Right now at work so havent been able to try it, but i do have time to convert some of my person cfgs that ive made from tfc, lot are transposed but then some i know i need to just update the commands.

Quick question
Is there going to be maps that will support up to 3+ teams, "other than hunted".
Reason why i ask is i got a huge file for my spy cfgs for quick access to any team disguise and was wondering how that will be handled in the script

will it be something like this:
"disguise green demoman"

or will be be something different. Sorry if this has been answered else where, trying to get caught up on all the features etc :D.

yus.

one of the devs said that it works as such:
Disguise enemy/friendly/colour Class

enemy apparently borks on maps with more then red/blue, so you have to use the colour.

Is there any vox cmds, using the "speak"command from TFC that can be used?

Just curious, the spy disguise cycler i use for TFC "speaks" a word related to that class when i select it, so i know which one i have qued up, then i have another button i press that wil actully switch to that disguise speaking a differnt word letting me know its set.

for example; when i cycle through, when it selects, scout, it speaks lieutenant, guard for sniper, soldier for soldier, atomic for demo. when i actuly set the guise the other button will speak the word "armed".

I'm in the process of converting my current config over and that basicly the last piece of info i'm trying to find out for the vox.

Dospac
09-14-2007, 10:05 PM
Yes, just put the correct path to the vox in your config. There are 3 different vox sets, so you have to add the right directory in the speak config lines. There's a post from mervaka on how exactly it should look somewhere.. If you just look in the game directory where the vox is, you should be able to figure it out. Otherwise search by posts he's made. =D

*edit bah did it myself :P*

I like your mouse wheel timer... very interesting.

This is what I have been using for a long time:

// Demoman Scripts

// 3 Button Detpack Selection With Comm Button Warning - just push m as you set the pack
// m binds and unbinds itself and is *ONLY* bound WHILE setting a detpack
// I REALLY like this setup...its simple, intuitive and has comms. GG to the author.

alias +det5PACK "detpack 5; bind m FIVESECS"
alias -det5PACK "detpack 5; unbind m"
alias FIVESECS "say_team [DEMOMAN] 5 SECOND DET PACK PLACED [H %h A %a]"

alias +det20PACK "detpack 20; bind m TWENTYSECS"
alias -det20PACK "detpack 20; unbind m"
alias TWENTYSECS "say_team [DEMOMAN] 20 SECOND DET PACK PLACED [H %h A %a]"

alias +det50PACK "+detpack 50; bind m FIFTYSECS"
alias -det50PACK "detpack 50; unbind m"
alias FIFTYSECS "say_team [DEMOMAN] 50 SECOND DET PACK PLACED [H %h A %a]"

bind , +det5PACK // sets a 5 second det pack
bind . +det20PACK // sets a 20 second det pack
bind / +det50PACK // sets a 50 second det pack

I suppose that could be updated with the vox files and with %l to give location.

Of course, it could be because my keyboard is different from the american ones. Those doesn't have Å, Ä and Ö for example. :/

I´ve some problems here with my cfg files. I hope you can help me out here.

I´ve one 'config.cfg' that looks like:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d157/THBronx/bind02.jpg?t=1189890467

And have one 'config'_default.cfg' that looks like:
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d157/THBronx/bind01.jpg?t=1189890622

As you can see, the 'config.cfg' (created when I joined the game for the first time) don´t have the comands and binds listed one by one per line. I don´t know if it´s the problem but some binds in-game didn´t work.

For exemple: I´ve one bind that I typed on both configs (config.cfg and config_default.cfg) to use with 'L' key. In-game the 'L' key was used for other action (in this case, it was assigned to the FlashLight, I checked the keyboard options and the key to FlashLight was other).
Any ideia of what´s wrong here? Because I don´t know if I need to use both cfg files or only one.

One more thing:
I´ve this bind:

bind "L" "say_team Team! I´m [ %c ] , with [ %h ] life, @ [ %l ] !!! "

But in-game its don´t work.

The next binds aren´t working too:

bind "kp_ins" "saveme; say_team Help! My Life: %h"
bind "kp_del" "engyme; say_team Help! I´ve only: %a"

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

I glanced through the thread and didn't see anything about this, but is there any way to send something to the chat box without having to do a say_team or a say? Sort of like echo (I think it was echo for Quake... been a LONG time)?

I'd like to preview classes in a disguise script I've got going before selecting what to disguise as.

It WAS echo. However, STEAM killed echo. Since STEAM came out, the echo command only shows in the console.

This will make class-specific binds a LOT easier to make.

I'll be back home tomorrow for some FF fragging.

I can get to the console with -console in the launch command, but can I bind a key to it? Tilde doesn't bring up the console for me, so I want to bind it to something else.

The command you are looking for is toggleconsole, bind that manually to some key of your choice and I'd think it should work.

PorkChopVII

actually wanted to find that out, BUT whats cool about tools like mani is that you can use normal say commands to exec admin commands, like "@say hi my name is Bob McGee, what would you like on your burger."

but if you are refering to like normal rcon commands ya you can. I dont think you can custom make a message mode like you could with HL engine.

I hope this information helps, if you need me to elaborate then ask.

tfc didnt have a "cfg" folder, you placed it in the map folder. Check int eh map folder to see if there is a /cfg folder there.. im tryign to wing this and be logical with my answers, so sorry if they are incorrect where the map cfg folder is.

Acciaccatura

I'm almost certain they went in the base directory (with config.cfg etc) and not in the map folder in . There aren't any cfg files in the FF map directory (or subdirectories). If I remember correctly, setinfo "em" 1 was what was needed to be done for TFC to get map specific configs to load, I've not checked this for FF though.

PorkChopVII

youre right about the command, like setinfo em 1

but my map cfgs went into the map folder, while class files went into the tfc directory.

not sure with how the hl2 setup is where to put the map cfgs. but im certain there is a subfolder in the maps directory that you should be able to place them. im not tryign to argue, just trying ot figure this out :D if im wrong im wrong B-)

Echo originally displayed on a players screen without using developer. After some STEAM update, echo would only show in the console or on the screen if "developer 1" was used. So in a sense it was removed - in a sense it was kept.

Don't "+/-" alias work anymore?

ej:

// --------------
//---- Aim Sentry Gun ----
// --------------

alias +aimsg "bind mouse1 detsentry; bind mouse2 detdispenser; bind mouse3 aimsentry"
alias -aimsg "exec mouse.cfg"

I can't make that work. If +/- aliases are gone, I'm so screwed up, all my cfgs ar written with that kind of cmds.

I would actually like to see people playing the game without the use of binding. Yeah, it may be cool and easier to put some kills out there but since there are many newer members playing I do not see the advantage to vets having to gain more advantages over beginner players. I see tons of pubs and people binding and even though it is a big part of the game it kind of makes me sick. I do not bind and will not ever bind and I have no problems whatsoever in playing to my uptmost ability.

They definitely do still work.

Not sure why your example isn't working, it MAY be that the mouse binds are case sensitive (use MOUSE2, rather than mouse2 etc.) as I can't see anything in particular wrong with it, but I'm just guessing.

Also, good luck doing ANYTHING with no binds darken :P I don't really see how improving communications with comms scripts and providing alternative ways to access items without going through menu items can be frowned upon, but there you go. I know I don't do it to come out on top of newbies: Communication scripts are for the good of the team and things like spy disguise scripts rather than navigating the menu are just personal preference.

Still had no luck with map specific configs can any of the dev team confirm they are actually in?

I made em work, i had to put my steam in engliss, I don't know why. (I had it in spanish) anyway, working right now.

IF you want some cfgs, just click here ^^.

Pd: If you youse that cfg, please note that the first click you make each respawn, has an alias, because I have a bug playing in my computer. +forward stucks, so don't be alarmed. just click twice xD. After the first click of each respawn it's normal.

first post in this forum so be patient :)

so i´ve got a question on configs - at least how several configs work together.

for example:
I want to have aliasses, class specific and map specific binds. so i do need an alias.cfg, an autoexec.cfg, a class config like soldier.cfg and maybe a map.cfg like ff_well.cfg ??
and if so - what i need to do to make them work? e.g. does the class config load automatically if i pick the class or does something need to be written inside the autoexec.cfg?
Will be keys used in the autoexec.cfg overwritten by classpsecific configs? like if i bind "MOUSE1" in autoexec.cfg with +attack and in soldier.cfg with jump (for example) will jump be used then?

or does i need an alias.cfg at all? or can i throw it in my autoexec?

would be glad to be enlighten by some wise guy :)

cheers

YES... put map specific communication binds in the <mapname>.cfg . IE.. "incoming water" "get lasers".

Autoexec.cfg can handle most of the aliases.
<classname>.cfg would be for binds/aliases specific to ONLY that class.

e.g. does the class config load automatically if i pick the class or does something need to be written inside the autoexec.cfg?

<classname>.cfg loads with every spawn

Will be keys used in the autoexec.cfg overwritten by classpsecific configs? like if i bind "MOUSE1" in autoexec.cfg with +attack and in soldier.cfg with jump (for example) will jump be used then?

YES

or does i need an alias.cfg at all? or can i throw it in my autoexec?

Many ppl just use Autoexec.cfg and others use Autoexec.cfg with <classname>.cfg

thank you very much :) your help is much apreciated

so I can try out some stuff now.

one final question for now reamains though:)

back in tfc i found a script which did this:
you pressed a button and hold it - while you were holding the button the super shotgun was equipped - switching back to your rocket launcher when you release it.

so i thought a little and came into something like this:

As a soldier i would like to have the following:
bind "MOUSE1" "slot4; +attack"
bind "MOUSE2" "slot3; +attack"

what i want to do:
if i press left mouse button (mouse1) i want to shot with the rocket launcher. if a enemy gets away i would like to finish him off with the super shotgun and bind it directly to mouse2. but if i fire again with mouse1 i shoot with the rocket launcher again - hope it´s clear what i´m trying to do?

edit: found it out!

alias +rl "slot5; +attack"
alias -rl "-attack"
alias +ss "slot3; +attack"
alias -ss "-attack"

bind "MOUSE1" "+rl"
bind "MOUSE2" "+ss"

if i press mouse2 with rocket launcher being equiped it will change to super shotgun (ss) and will shoot if i hold down mouse2. or will shoot if i press it again. but it will switch to rocket launcher and shoots if i hold down mouse1 again

Ok sry if this has been addressed before but I just read thru this forum and am hoping someone will have an answer.

It looks like a lot of the script commands and whatnot are similar or the same as TFC, but one thing that really bothered me in TFC is that i couldn't do if commands. Can I on FF?

Essentially what i want to do is create a script that will say seperate things if my health is greater then or less then 0. Meaning if i make a toss script (bind SPACE "say_team flag toss attemped!! [%h] [%a]") is there a way i can modifiy this script to say something like "if %h > 0 then say_team Flag Tossed and if %h < 0 then say_team Flag Tossed Attempt Failed, Flag is still in %l"

Can I do that or is it the same as TFC and i just have to hope that the other people on my team know that if my health is neg. then the toss didn't happen?

What else, if anything, have you guys built in?

My question is if i'm a spy disguised as say a soldier, the spy and the solly weapon slots don't match up;

slot1 = spy knife / solly c-bar
slot2 = spy tranq / solly single shotty
slot 3 = spy super shotty / solly super shotty

BUT here is where I struggle

slot4 = spy nailgun / solly nothing
slot5 = spy nothing / solly RPG

ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS THE DEMO:

slot1 = spy knife / demo c-bar
slot2 = spy tranq / demo single shotty
slot3 = spy super shotty / demo nothing
slot4 = spy nailgun / demo GL
slot5 = spy nothing / demo PL

can someone help me understand how this works?

anyone?

It's actually not done by slots.
Generally, the knife goes to melee weapons, the tranq goes to the class's special weapon, the SSG goes to SG/SSG, and the nailgun goes to the nailgun.

I'll try to get a list or something.

Class/Weapon | Knife | Tranquilizer | Super Shotgun | Nailgun
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Scout | Crowbar | Nailgun* | Shotgun | Nailgun
Sniper | Crowbar | Sniper Rifle | Autorifle* | Nailgun
Soldier | Crowbar | RPG | Super Shotgun | Shotgun
Demoman | Crowbar | PL* | Shotgun* | GL*
Medic | Medkit | SNG | Super Shotgun | Nailgun
HWGuy | Crowbar | AC | Super Shotgun | Shotgun
Pyro | Crowbar | Flamethrower*| Shotgun* | IC*
Spy | Knife | Tranquilizer | Super Shotgun | Nailgun
Engineer | Wrench | Railgun | Super Shotgun | Railgun*

i think it looks awesome! thanks guys, I have been trying to incorporate a script similar to DarK_TaO's spy script (announces what weapon it looks like you are holding when diguised) with you spy script Porkchop! That was the last thing i was struggling with and i think i finally have it!

now i just have to set it up to dl like yours is so other people can check it out!

what no special thanks to people in the "cfg bible"? Also need to add instructions to those who are new to cfg and doesnt know how to view them. Just an extra messure. When i released cfg packs for tfc and FF(which i do privatly because i customize for user) need to mention how to change/add to cfg in the readme text ^_^ overall decent work good job and hope it works for others. Need some input ill be glad, figured researve that for when or if you ask :D

ok guys I am still having trouble with one of my scripts:

alias +stab "wait; +attack; wait; alias stab -stab"
alias -stab "-attack; wait; scloak; wait; alais stab +stab"
alias stab "+stab"
bind f "stab"

Now what i want is for it to just stab once and then silent cloak. What i'm looking for is a button you press to get a back stab on someone that will instantly silent cloak once you get the stab, so that no one knows what just happened. IF done right you then have a disguise still and can uncloak a few seconds down the road, but this way no one see's what happened.

The problem is that for some reason it just keeps stabbing like a toggle script and i have to hit f again to stop it. I always though + / - meant press and release...am i wrong or what am i missing here?

PorkChopVII

alias +stab "+attack"
alias -stab "-attack; wait; scloak"

bind mouse1 "+stab"

but i think there is a delay from next time you can cloak if im not mistaken. that will take some tweeking to how long it will take. but this is what you need for what you were tryign to pull off with your code :D

Yes there are special thanks to people, I forgot to put the credits.txt. There are also instructions, for each .cfg file. I'll need to work them out a bit more I guess.

Have you finished your auto spam script? ^^

BTW: Do you have MSN/ICQ? IF you do, send it by e-mail, it'll be easier to talk ^^

does anyone know what the command is to sabotage a sentry and dispencer(as in make it attack / blow up once you have sucessfully taken control of it)

I thought it was sentrysabotage / dispencersabotage, but that wasn't working for me...

Its an autothing when you get next to the senty i thought

No not the actual initiation to sabotage, that is auto if you look at the sg / dispecer. I'm looking for the command that once you have filled the bar and taken possesion and you want to turn on your sabotage...I think it's opt. 5 / 6 on the radial menu. I know there is a command and i think it's either sentrysabotage or sabotagesentry / dispencersabotage or sabotagedispencer but for some reason they aren't working for me so i thought maybe it's something else.

Hi, sorry in advance if it's been asked but it's a lot to sift through! I have a couple binds I'd like to make but I'm clueless on how to do it, so any help would be appreciated.

Engi

- How about rotating the gun, let's say one button push to get the gun to rotate 45 degrees and another to rotate it 90 degrees?

Spy

- I'd like to be able to push one key for silent cloak without using the radial.

- For sabotaging sentry gun, can I just push one key once the meter has filled up rather then go to the radial menu? Example, I run up to a gun as spy, have the meter fill up, and I just push "G" and the gun is sabotaged.

Thank you to anyone willing to help out! :) I think i'd really enjoy both classes once I can avoid the radial a bit more.

Engi

Well with FF being the sexy shit it is, you actually have an aim here button. Basically you push it whenever you need to move / rotate your Sg and the gun will aim where you are aiming. Still here is you bind for that command:

bind g "aimsentry"

Replace 'g' with whatever key you wanted.

Spy

- I'd like to be able to push one key for silent cloak without using the radial.

bind g "scloak"

Replace 'g' with whatever key you wanted.

- For sabotaging sentry gun, can I just push one key once the meter has filled up rather then go to the radial menu? Example, I run up to a gun as spy, have the meter fill up, and I just push "G" and the gun is sabotaged.

I have 2 solutions for you on this one. The first is what you requested here. The 2nd is a copy of what I use:

bind g "sentrysabotage"

This will do what you wanted.

// --------
//---- Sabotage ----
// --------

alias sab_1 "sentrysabotage"
alias sab_2 "dispensersabotage"

alias sabsg "sab_1; wait; default; wait; speak vox/female/s.g."
alias sabdis "sab_2; wait; default; wait; speak vox/female/dispenser"
alias sabboth "sab_1; wait; sab_2; wait; default; wait; speak vox/female/both"

alias sabmenu "bind 1 sabsg; wait; echo 1) Sabotage SG; wait; bind 2 sabdis; wait; echo 2) Sabotage Dispenser; wait; bind 3 sabboth; wait; echo 3) Sabotage Both; wait; bind 0 default; wait; echo 0) Defaults"

bind ctrl "sabmenu"

This is what I use.

Once you have it sabotaged (the bar has filled) then you hit ctrl and then 1, 2, 3, or 0.

One will activate all the Sg's you have sabotaged, 2 will activate (blow up) all Dispensers you have sabotaged, 3 will activate both, 0 will reset the keys (if you hit it by accident and need to shut it off). Vox is contained so that it tells you either SG, dispenser, or both in only your ear.

Once you use the menu all keys are rebound to defaults by using this code:

// -------
//---- Default ----
// -------

alias d_1 "wait;bind 1 slot1"
alias d_2 "wait;bind 2 slot2"
alias d_3 "wait;bind 3 slot3"
alias d_4 "wait;bind 4 slot4"
alias d_5 "wait;bind 5 slot5"
alias d_6 "wait;bind 6 slot6"
alias d_7 "wait;bind 7 slot7"
alias d_8 "wait;bind 8 slot8"
alias d_9 "wait;bind 9 slot9"
alias d_0 "wait;bind 0 slot0"
alias default "wait;d_1;wait;d_2;wait;d_3;wait;d_4;wait;d_5;wait; d_6;wait;d_7;wait;d_8
;wait;d_9;wait;d_0"

Put both pieces in your spy.cfg.

sweet! do please and I'll get you hooked up!

Easiest way to do that is jump ingame and type 'status' in the console. It will show you your SteamID. And anyone else's in the game.

Like we told you in the pickup, it's not possible without editing the models. It was somewhat of a bug that the models were affected by fov in TFC, and it was fixed in FF for a reason.

Why would you want this, anyway? Just get transparent skins for the weapons (http://www.fortresspimp.net/?p=browse&id=587) if you think they block too much of your screen.

You did this in the config or the console?

In console: bind mouse3 "cloak"

In config: bind "mouse3" "cloak"

Make sure you've got proper spacing. Use scloak to cloak without throwing a ragdoll/making noise.

I am suggestin for some nice person:

Would to setup a site, like some oldcshool tfc sites, that list many used bind and alias scripts, for anyone to use. And that people can input their script to there.

It would be a lot of better than this thread imo.
