Ahhh, look over there -- a monkey!

On Shutdown2, the engineer's sentry gun seems to protect the ramp fairly well... and who knows if the sneaky spy will trigger the switch? Watch as the mystery unfolds!

The blue team's flagroom on Monkey is also shaping up nicely, if I don't say so myself.

dr_nick's creative efforts have been the inspiration behind the bulk of the Fortress Forever class models' appearances. He's been kind enough to upload many more of his concept sketches, and here are some examples:

More new media (WIP models, sketches, screenshots, etc.) can be found on our media page. Be sure to give it a look!

Since the last update, we've added some new folks to the FF dev team. Olah and voogru have so far proven to be great additions to the FF coder group. 2d-chris has joined the mapping squad and is pushing full steam ahead. geekfeststarter and GoaT_RopeR have started helping Dr. Evil with bot scripting.

Lastly, today we finished our third coordinated playtest in three weeks. What does this all mean, you might ask? It means we're on track to have a working Fortress Forever beta version ready during the first week of August (yes, August 2006). From that point on, all FF changes will be tweaks based on playtesting, bug fixes, minor model-related updates, additional maps, etc. More news to come on that later!

Hmm, I didn't read that part the first time. Holy shit. Thats freaking soon. Dammit I don't have time to upgrade my system by then! I guess the better fortress mod will be first, FF!

Will the first beta release be for beta testers only? Or will it be a public beta?

The shutdown2 screenshots are really impressive. What will this promised beta include (include details)? I thought the decision was to complete the game 99% before releasing anything public? When will you guys release the promised video?

Eee!! The excitement fills me.

So I guess the Scout gets a super-cool rush move! That or the explosion effects leave after-images. I'd prefer the former.

Haha, look at the bunnyhopping soldier, he looks like he's doing ballet... Run, Spy! Run!

Yay concept art.

Everything's coming together nicely!

Am I in the beta?

Beautiful, beautiful! I love how the medic looks.

I'm interested in how the Engineer concept will translate to the model. I thought that (Besides the hat) he looked a lot like other classes. But once you color him up, give him gritty hair on his arms and maybe even make the cigar smoke? I'm sure he'll be discernable. Very exciting.

I'll conclude that the scout dodging the sentry is the scout's new surprise skill? And that somehow he's still got caltrops?

Looks beautifully Fortress and wonderfully unique. Great job, FF team!

And yes.. uh, that is public beta the first week or August, or is that closed or invite-only beta?

Just to clear up the confusion (before the new scout feature discussions begins), but that's part of the conc effect. It 'warps' the air similar to the explosions in F.E.A.R which is a pretty cool visual effect

I wonder when the signups will be, for the closed beta. Assuming that the first "working beta in the first week of August" is a closed beta.
